Tangutica is a very hardy perennial. It grows well in zone3a.Yellow Clematis [Tangutica] To Germinate.I place the seeds in a dampened folded paper towel & place in a plastic bag.Leave the bag open for some air exchange. When sprouted put in small pots that can be planted; like peat pots or jiffy pellets.Paper egg cartons work well for 12 little pots which are easy to seperate when wet & can be planted. Also;those flat bottom dixe water cups make a one time use pot which can be cut away with scissors. Use larger pots as the plant grows until ready to plant outside.A large pot can be made from 4 or more grocery store bags;pulled one over the other & filled with good garden soil. Also 4L plastic milk jugs. When planting place it in the prepared hole & gently cut & pull away the bags or jugs. When preparing the hole for planting put lots of compost;rotted manure;any humus type material to hold moisture.Clematis likes full sun & damp; but not wet roots. After filling hole with good soil cover with a mulch. You will need some type of trellis for the clematis to clime.I leave the plant alone until spring as the leaves help protect the plant over winter. In the spring I pull the plant away from the trellis with my hands. Pull off all the dead leaves;flower heads & vine ends.Cut the vines back to 3 or 4 feet . Clean up around the base of the plant; & then put the vine ends back on the trellis. Water well; & recover with fresh mulch. Mature vines will require some form of fertilizer to replenish the soil.Plants that are started early; & well looked after should produce some flowers late in the first year.Enjoy.
