volontiers avec les stars qu'il habille et figure dans les pages people
des magazines, Jean-Claude Jitrois n'a pas toujours porté du cuir et fait de la
mode...
Jean-Claude Jitrois a un parcours atypique puisqu'il est d'abord passé par la
psychologie. C'est au début des années 80 qu'il donne à sa carrière une toute
nouvelle direction.
Il ouvre dans une ancienne échoppe, à Nice, une petite boutique de vêtements
de cuir. Il réalise alors qu'il est possible de transposer à la couture beaucoup
d'éléments de sa théorie et sa pratique thérapeutiques : le vêtement, comme une
seconde peau, un second moi, un langage non verbal
au sein du corps social. C'est sa vision de la mode.
La première boutique niçoise rencontre un vrai succès. Une deuxième est ouverte à Saint-Tropez. Immédiatement, la jet-set se reconnaît dans ses créations : Cher, Elton John, entre autres, deviennent ses clients préférés. Le bouche à oreille fait son effet, les stars en amènent d'autres.
Saint-Tropez est le déclencheur de son succès. Les ouvertures se multiplient : d'abord à Paris puis aux Etats-Unis surtout, mais aussi au Japon et bien sûr, en Europe.
En 1993, Jean-Claude Jitrois lance le cuir stretch. Cette innovation discrètement révolutionnaire amplifie son succès.
Fin décembre 2001, il crée le cuir smocké, avec le thème Rosa et Guernica, qui révolutionne l'image que l'on a du cuir en lui donnant du volume et de la prestance dans des tons de rouge, blanc ou beige...
La marque est aujourd'hui présente dans les corners des grands magasins parisiens (Galeries Lafayette, Le Bon marché). Jean-Claude Jitrois a su diversifier ses créations, de manière à se développer et être aujourd'hui une marque de renommée mondiale.

Unveiling his winter haute couture collection for Chanel in a 17th century Paris convent, Karl Lagerfeld presented a bevy of fallen angels with chaste stares in skin-tight hip-to-toe leather.
More than four centuries after Mere Angelique arrived at the Abbaye de Port-Royal as a pre-teen to reform a community of lapsed nuns, Lagerfeld embraced his signature black and white with an obvious nod to the site's past.
The German designer created an elongated silhouette, mainly with the must-have Chanel item for autumn-winter 2003-04: "stiletto pants", all-in-one slim leather trousers and high-heeled boots - in white or black, naturally.
Sleeves seemed almost as long, with flared cuffs on occasion hiding hands depending on the sweep of the arm. High ruffled collars fastened with prim bows or a trademark chiffon Chanel camellia spilled out of suit jackets.
"It's more Matrix than medieval," Lagerfeld said with a wink at the end of the show, referring to the cult series of films starring Keanu Reeves that have launched a fashion fad, thanks to heroes clad in streamlined monastic black.
The house's classic tweed suits will be longer next season, with pleated skirts falling almost to the knee, and worn with or without the ubiquitous stiletto pants.
High-waisted jackets revealed an array of wide belts, either in plain black vinyl, studded with baroque stones or adorned with byzantine mosaics.
White ermine accents lining the bodice and hem of a black and white tweed cocktail dress turned one Chanel model into an ice princess. Pale faces and shimmering silver eye shadow added to the look.
For evening, the white leather combination boot-pants again stood out, worn under a filmy black chiffon dress or dazzling tailcoats.
Linda Evangelista, the 1980s supermodel who made a brief return to the catwalk in Milan earlier this year for Dolce and Gabbana, did Lagerfeld the same favor, playing the role of the bride, wrapped in yards of frothy white tulle.
Lagerfeld's splendid collection and Evangelista's rare runway appearance earned the praise of celebrity guests like Australian pop diva Kylie Minogue and French singer Vanessa Paradis.
