Welcome to the June Edition of E-Wing News

We must apologize for the delay in sending out E-Wing News. We were at the Indiana Rally this past weekend and was not able to get E-Wing News out by June 1. We had a great time at the rally and there will be more about the rally and some pictures as well coming to you in our mid-month reminder that will be sent out around June 15th. We would also like to thank everyone for all of the events, articles, congratulations, e-mail addresses, and for sale items that you have been sending. Without your involvement there would be no E-Wing News. This month we received some really good Readers' Stories. Also be sure to read the Rider Education Tid-Bits. It may just change your mind about not wearing the proper riding gear. We also have a new section called Events Wrap-Up, so be sure and check it out. If your e-mail program cannot view html text, this will look peculiar. There is a text only version sent along with this version for those of you who are unable to view this html version. As always keep sending those e-mail addresses. The more Wing Riders who get involved the better!

Rider Education Topic of the Month

As the Ohio District Educator, it sometimes is hard to bring things to peoples attention. We in Rider Education try very hard to tell a story or show others what proper riding gear can do for them. Then we go out to ride and the ego trips move in and the members ride with no helmets, short sleeve shirts, sandals, shorts. All thinking it CAN'T happen to them. As a MSF Instructor we tell our class riding motorcycles is a great sport, it involves risk, we need to learn to reduce that risk. It is not, you will never have an accident, it is, when is it going to happen? Some of you that read this will laugh, thinking he deserved it, others will say it can't happen to me. If I can get the other sincere ones, then I have saved a life, or someone from being hurt bad.......

Readers Stories

HONDA RIDER EDUCATION CENTER, TROY, OHIO

On May 16, 1999, thirteen riders and one co-rider met at the Honda Rider Education Center in Troy, Ohio. The purpose of the gathering was to attend the Experienced Rider Course (ERC). Twelve of the riders drove their beloved Gold Wings and one rode the other brand with the loud pipes. There were even two riders from Australia riding Wings. For those of you who didn't know, and this writer didn't, Jerry Richards, GWRRA Great Lakes Region D Director, is a MSF instructor, and one of the two instructors needed that day...........

Readers Stories

BRANSON OR BUST

Well, maybe I shouldn't have said bust, for that is what my poor wing did. That's the ending, so let's go back to the beginning. Martha and I met Tim Sevier & Donna Kiser and Ron Cawien and Karen Tomlin on Wednesday morning at 7am. We all crackled and popped in our rain gear as we hugged and greeted each other. The three wings and trailers headed up I-74 looking for breakfast. Now with full tanks and tummies the ride began in earnest. I-465 around Indianapolis to I-70 where we encountered our first rain. A few more showers caressed us off and on to St. Louis. We bounced our way to the Arch. What an impressive sight this arch is. You can't imagine how big it is until you walk up to it and touch it. Martha stayed down (she has gone up before) while the five of us got our tickets ($6@) and only had to wait ten minutes to go. Tickets are for a specific time to ride up in small tramcars holding five persons. The view is awesome looking down on the Mississippi River, Busch Stadium, and when you look west, you readily see why they call St. Louis the Gateway to the West. On a clear day you can see the curvature of the earth.

Important Notice

Chuck Geggie, GWRRA member in Michigan is on the Michigan Task Force for "The Ride For Kids" and has the following information:

The "Ride for Kids" is the fund raising event for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation of the United States, a non profit organization to benefit research into brain tumors. These rides give all proceeds directly to the Foundation. There is no middle man to take away any costs. Very few fundraising events can make that statement. Minimum donation is $35. Another $15 will get you a ride T-Shirt. Information can be found at most Honda Motorcycle dealers.

Dates for the events in the Great Lakes Region area and nearby are:
July 18, Oakbrook, IL
July 24, Marysville, OH at the Honda Rally
August 29, Ann Arbor, MI

I will be happy to provide further info to anyone who wants it. You can e-mail me (Chuck Geggie)
