YJ Windshield Frame and Sport Bars
on a CJ-8 "Scrambler"

/user/cjwindshield.jpg

I started with a complete
YJ windshield frame and
Sport bars i got at a Italian
Junk Yard. It is the exact
size and fits perfect but
required some Modifi-
cations to get everything
working. The main outside
hinges bolted up perfect
and i reused the factory
YJ seal. I wanted to use
my CJ dash, but the
defroster ducts are not
the same on a YJ. I made
new defroster openings
and closed up the old ones,

now the defroster works good, but not the same as a factory YJ.  The 2 interior
brackets with the big knobs, (they are identical on a CJ and YJ but are not in
the same location). I made a cardboard template and had a local welding shop
make a some from 3/16 steel. The biggest problem i had was getting the
YJ windshield wiper motor to work, (the CJ has 4 wires and the YJ has 5 wires,
don't quote me) I got "low", "high", and "off"  to work, but "park" don't work
correctly, it just stops were it is when you shut if off.  My wife says the timing

is just second nature
to get it to stop in the
bottom part of the
window. (This is a
budget daily driver)
To mount the "Sport
Bars" i just drilled
2 holes in the rollbar
and used some long
grade "8" bolts. Then
adjusted the length to
fit correctly. (they are
2 piece and telescope
an inch or so from the
factory). We use a
'95 YJ strapless Bikini
Top when the hardtop
is off, it fits very tight.
