I found a great site that describes project-based learning and gives a lot of examples of good programs. Check out www.edutopia.org and let's tell our schools that this is the sort of thing we should be doing!
Another cool idea is a problem-solving competition called Odyssey of the Mind. Kids in K-12 can participate but your school has to purchase a membership and pay a fee to compete.
