Privatization of Education

I just read a statistic cited by John Gatto that private education costs about $2500 per student per year, whereas in some cases, public education can cost up to $9000 per student!  And 50% of the money that goes toward public education gets taken off first for administration costs at the top levels, then another 5% goes to administration at the local level.  Somebody needs to find out how much our taxes would go down if all education was privatized.  Sure we would have to pay out of pocket and provide government scholarships for the poor, but if we did away with the public schools as they are, we could save the country a whole bunch of $$$.

Then, on the other hand, I also read that public education is not as bad as the media will have you believe.  In 1980, it was published that test scores were plummeting, but it was found that these results were statistically misleading as so many more students were taking the tests (especially more students from low-income areas).  So the mean went down but percentiles were up.  When scientists studied and reported such findings, the powers that be (Secretary of Education, et. al.) told them to shut up and stop studying education.  If public education were fine, we couldn't justify increasing the funding that mostly go to the people furthest from actually doing the educating.

Eventually, I will finish reading on the subject and create a plan and lobby it to the government!  Or just start my own school and hope that enough people buy into my ideas to pay for their children to go there.
