Great Pyrenees
Livestock Guardian Dogs
Here on Huber Farm we run unregistered purebred Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dogs to protect our herd from predators.  We bought our first dog, Dixie, in 2000 as a 12 week old pup, born of working parents on a farm in extreme southern WV, and raised her with two goat kids in a pen in the barn.  She has proven to be the best guardian that any breeder of livestock could ask for.  In 4 years, not a single loss from predators - and we have plenty.  With the addition of Beau in 2003, a male from the regarded dogs of Beverly Coates and C&C Farms in Oklahoma, the pair have made an excellent team, working together well to protect the herd.  These are wonderful dogs with so many attributes that I can't say enough about them.  Aside from being such an effective guardian team, Dixie and Beau have also proven to be a top notch breeding pair, producing strong, healthy, large pups that have gone on to become both livestock guardians and beloved pets for their new owners.   We have also added a second female, our third Great Pyr guardian, Shiva.   She has already proven to carry on the strong guardian genetics of her bloodlines and has become an excellent guardian in her own right and should match Dixie as an excellent breeding bitch.
