Summary: Kyle and Isabel seek counsel on their relationship. *************** Jim Valenti was sitting on his bed putting on his socks when he looked up and saw Kyle standing in the door way. "Kyle! What's up son?" asked Jim as he smiled at his only child. Kyle swallowed and shoved his hands in his pockets. "Uh, Dad can I talk to you for a minute?" asked Kyle uncertainly as he ran a hand through his hair. Jim put down the boot he had just picked up and looked at Kyle. The tone of voice he had used clued him in to the seriousness of the conversation coming. "Sure...sure Kyle, come on in here and let's talk," said Jim watching Kyle come into the room, chewing on his thumb nail like he always did when he was nervous. "Kyle?" Jim asked trying to encourage Kyle to start talking. Kyle looked at his Dad and said, "I huh, I wanted to let you know that I've been seeing someone." After a moments hestiation Kyle got up and headed for the door. Jim looked confused as he said, "That's it? That's what you wanted to tell me? Well son that's great! I'm glad you're beginning to date again, I was getting worried there for awhile." Kyle stopped in the doorway and put his hand on the doorjab, his head hung down. Jim stood up and went to his son. "Kyle, is there something else? Who is this girl you've been seeing? Do I know her?" Kyle rubbed the back of his neck before raising his head and turning to his Dad. "Yeah, you know her Dad, you know her really well," said Kyle vaguely. Jim sat down again and looked up at Kyle. "Well who is it son?" asked Jim forcing a smile. Kyle cleared his throat and said, "Isabel...it's Isabel." Jim's smile froze on his face. "Really! Well Kyle...I didn't know you two were anything but friends," said Jim as the smile slid from his face. "I love her Dad," said Kyle watching his Dad. "I see," said Jim looking down at his hands. "Do you Dad? Do you see?" asked Kyle. He didn't think his Dad did. "I'm...I'm trying. She is beautiful," said Jim nodding. Kyle looked away and then back as he stuck his hands in his back pockets. "It's more than that Dad, she's...she's smart, she's funny, we like the same things...she gets my humor. I mean she is so much more..and I love her," explained Kyle trying to get his father to understand. "She's divorced Kyle," said Jim. "So are you and half the people in Roswell! What does that have to do with anything? I've loved her for three years Dad! I've sat back and watched her marry Jesse and live with him as man and wife, but inside I was dying, and now she's free and she wants to be with me Dad! Me! Do you know how that makes me feel?" asked Kyle. Jim looked up at his son and pointed out the one thing they both had tiptoed around. "She's an alien Kyle." Kyle sat down. "Exactly," Kyle said sighing. "Don't get me wrong Kyle, I think the world of Isabel, she's a special young lady, I just want you to be sure about this. It's not going to be like if you were with a human." Jim saw the pain in son's eyes and felt it himself. He had lost Kyle's mom and then Amy Deluca, he didn't want his son to have a lonely life like his. "Kyle, do you love her that much?" Kyle smiled softly, "More than I ever thought I could love anyone Dad. I don't know what I would do if I lost her." Jim nodded and said, "Then I think you should hang on to her." Kyle looked up at his Dad and smiled his relief, but his smile didn't quite reach his eyes. "You don't look that happy son," said Jim worriedly. Kyle felt his heart pounding in his chest threatening to come up out of his throat and choke him. "Kyle?" asked Jim as he put a hand on Kyle's shoulder. "There's more Dad," said Kyle blowing out a breath and wiping his eyes. Jim patted his son's back as he waited for him to continue. "She's pregnant Dad. We're going to have a kid," said Kyle looking at his Dad. Jim nodded his head. That's what he thought. "Is it going to be human like me, or is it going to be some alien thing, or what? What kind of kid is this going to be? " said Kyle hanging his head in his hands. "What if it can't live here or Isabel dies Dad? I can't go through what Max has, and I can't live with out her." Jim drew in a silent breath and rubbed Kyle's back. What could he tell his son to give him comfort and make everything all right? He didn't have any answers. ******* Isabel knocked on Michael and Max's door. That they would kill her was an understatement. But she would stand firm and there would be no looking back. Max opened the door and moved aside to let Isabel in. "What are you doing here?" he asked her. "Are you going somewhere?" she asked as she noticed the towel around his neck. "I have a date with Liz. Do you need something?" he asked her as he went back to the bathroom to finish getting ready. "I needed to tell you and Michael something," she said as she looked at the mess of the apartment. She began to straighten things as she went about the room. Anything to avoid to telling Max her news. "What did you say?" said Max as he came out and retrieved a shirt from the closet and headed back to the bathroom. "I said I have something to tell you and Michael," she said a bit louder. "Yeah? What?" called out Max. "I'm in love," she said as she stacked some magazines on the floor. Max came out of the bathroom, his shirt half buttoned and stood looking at her as he asked, "What? Isabel we went through this when you thought you were in love with Jesse. We can't let anyone else in? I'm sorry, but..." "No, it's okay because he already knows about us!" rushed out Isabel. Max's hands dropped down to his side. "You told someone about us? Isabel how could you?" said Max angrily. "No! No Max, it's someone we...already...know," said Isabel suddenly nervous. "Who?" Then realization struck. "Kyle? You're in love with Kyle?" he asked surprised. Isabel stood up and nodded. "When? How?" asked Max not believeing he had not noticed the attraction. "Does he know?" "Yeah, he knows. And Max, he loves me too! Please be happy for me! Please!" pleaded Isabel. Max put his hands on his hips and rolled his eyes heavenward. He wanted her happy, but Kyle? "Isabel, if this is what you want then I'll support you, but make sure that ...." Isabel jumped and ran to throw her arms around his neck to hug him "Well that part was easy," she thought. "Thank you Max!" she said. "You're welcome," Max said surprised she still clung to him. "Okay it that's it I need to finish getting ready for my date." She shook her head, but didn't let go or say anything. The door flew open and in walked Michael with a huge pizza. "Man, I'm so ready for the game tonight! I've got my TV, my Snapple, and a..." he opened the box and waved it under Max and Isabel's noses, "large extra cheese, pineapple, and anchovi pizza. It can't get any better than..." Isabel let go of Max and gagged. She threw her hand over mouth before heading to the bathroom and throwing up in the toilet. Max and Michael frowned and followed her to the bathroom door. "What's going on? Why is Isabel hurling in my john? I didn't think we could get sick like that?" said Michael as he wet a rag and held it out to Max who was rubbing Isabel's back. Max frowned as things started to make sense to him. "Isabel, there's more you were going to tell me isn't there?" Isabel finally quit throwing up and wiped her face with the rag Max handed her. Sitting on the floor, she looked up at Max and Michael and then covered her face as she began to cry. "What the hell? Somebody tell me what's going on here? Why is she sick, and why do you act like you know what's going on?" demanded Michael. "Isabel's pregnant aren't you Isabel?" asked Max grimly. Michael's mouth fell open as he looked from Max to Isabel. "What? How? Who?" Isabel nodded as she reached for the tissue Max offered her and blew her nose. Michael's eyes rolled up as he ran a hand over his face. "Oh crap," he whispered as he looked at Isabel. "Does Kyle know?" asked Max as he helped Isabel off the floor. "Why would Valenti need to ...Kyle! That's Kyle's kid?" Michael yelled in surprise. "He knows," said Isabel quietly as she went in search of Michael's toothpaste and toothbrush. Isabel brushed her teeth as Max and Michael watched her. "What?" she asked as she spit in the sink. "How could you let yourself get pregnant? Didn't you guys use something? And why Kyle?" asked Michael. Isabel just gave Michael her 'don't start with me now' look before going into the living room. "That's what you really wanted to tell us isn't?" asked Max. Isabel nodded as she paced around the room. "Max, I love him! I've never loved anyone the way I love him, but I'm so scared! What if this baby is...like yours? What if it can't live here?" She burst into tears. Max went to her and took her in his arms. "I don't know Isabel. I'm sorry, but I don't know." "You get rid of it! You can't leave this planet Isabel and you know that. Get rid of it before you get attached! And no more sex for you!" said Michael as if that settled it. Max and Isabel just looked at Michael. "Michael, I'm attached to this baby already. I want a baby...a family." "So adopt! Lot's of kids to adopt, you don't need to have them yourself," said Michael. "I want this baby Michael. It's part Kyle and part me. I want this one," said Isabel trying to make him understand. "Isabel, Michael may be right," said Max. Isabel moved out of his arms. "I can't believe you said that! I thought you would understand!" "We have no way to save your baby Isabel, and I'm not willing to have you die. If it's you or you baby, then we save you," said Max. Isabel headed for the door. "It's a good thing it's not up to you and Michael! I thought you would be mad, but supportive. I was wrong. I'm sorry I came here," she cried as she ran out. "Isabel!" called Max as he moved to go after her, but Michael held him back. "She needs time to face it Max, let her go." ********* Kyle found Isabel crying on her bed in her apartment. "What's wrong?" he asked as he sat beside her and held her. "Max and Michael think I should get rid of the baby!" she cried into Kyle's shoulder. Kyle sighed and closed his eyes. He had wondered the same thing. "Isabel, I think we need to talk about the possibility we may need to do that," he said sadly. Isabel pulled back and stared at him. "How can you say that?" she asked horrified. If Kyle was not wanting this child, what was she going to do? "I thought you were happy about this baby?" Taking her hands in his, Kyle told her, "Isabel, you know I love you more than anything in this world. I want a baby with you, but not if it means danger to you. We don't know if the baby will survive." Isabel fell against Kyle and cried harder. "I want this baby Kyle, I want it. It's a fighter, I know it is!" "I want it to be Isabel, but we have to face facts, it's part alien and may not make it." "It's also part human and so maybe it could Kyle. We have to give it a chance," said Isabel. She was not giving up her child. ********* Jim Valenti sat in the bed of his truck with Max while Michael sat on the tailgate. "So they told you huh?" said Max. "Kyle did. Threw me let me tell you. Never saw it coming," said Jim. "Tell me about it," said Michael throwing rocks at the quarry below. "About the baby Max..." said Jim, but was interrupted by Michael. "She can't have that baby! She might die!" "She loves it Michael and I understand that. Once I connected with my son I loved him. She will fight for her child," said Max. "Is it going be like yours and Tess's Max? Will it die here?" asked Jim, his own heart afraid to want this grandchild in case it wouldn't survive. "I don't see how it could," said Max sadly. He had hoped Isabel and Michael would never have to go through what he was. "But it's part human Max. Won't that help it?" asked Jim. Micheal turned to look at Max. "Well? What do you think?" Max thought about it and said "It would be a slim chance at best, but maybe it could." "I think we need to take that chance and see if it's possible," said Jim with some hope. "Let's go," said Max. ******* Kyle answered the knock on Isabel's door. "What do you want?" Then seeing his Dad with Max and Michael he said, "Dad." The three men entered the apartment and Kyle closed the door. "Where's Isabel?" asked Max. Kyle motioned to the bedroom. "She's cried herself to sleep." He turned to Michael who had not stopped staring daggers at him. "What?" "How could you get her pregnant knowing what you did about alien pregnancies?" "Michael!" warned Max, but he wanted to know too. Tears came to Kyle's eyes as he stared at Michael and then looked away. When he finally composed himself he said, "She said she couldn't get pregnant because she hadn't with Jesse. We used protection anyway, but it failed. You think I want her life in danger? I love her! I would die myself to protect her!" The other three men looked away. Each knew that Kyle would never have put Isabel in danger on purpose and that he was hurting just as much as Isabel. This was his child too. "Why are you here?" asked Kyle as he wiped his eyes. "We want to check and see how the baby is," said Max. "Why?" asked Kyle. "You want us to get rid of it." "So do you," said a voice from the hall. "Isabel..." said Kyle. "I said it might be best. I don't want to lose you. I don't want to lose our child either, but if it's the only way I'm willing to do it." "I'm not," she said firmly. "Isabel, I'm going to connect with your baby and see if I can tell if there is any human in it," said Max. Isabel bit her lip and nodded. "Okay," she said softly. She lay on the sofa and Max raised her shirt up to reveal her still flat belly. "When did you..huh...conceive?" Max asked. Tess's belly had started to round slightly almost immediately. "I don't know...a few weeks ago I guess," said Isabel trying to remember. "What's wrong Max?" asked Jim. "She still has a flat stomach," Max said. He placed his hand on her belly and concentrated. The connection was immediate. The others waited anxiously while Max searched the child. When he broke free and fell back panting, the others could barely wait for the answer they wanted. "Well? Is it okay?" asked Kyle biting his thumb as he held Isabel's hand. "Max?" Isabel pleaded. She squeezed Kyle's hand. Max sat up and looked at the faces around him. "It's both." The others looked at each other and then at Max. "What does that mean?" Michael asked. "I guess being part human makes it able to survive. It's going to live," he said relieved. "So we're meant to mate with humans?" asked Michael. "Is the kid going to have powers?" "I don't know about the powers. Probably. Each pregnancy could be different, I just don't know," said Max. Kyle and Isabel fell into each others arms with relief. "I told you it was a fighter," sighed Isabel, her hand patting her belly. "I think the pregnancy will be a normal human one. You would have started showing and having alien symptoms if it wasn't. All you've done is show human ones," said Max. Another relief. They wouldn't have to explain an early baby. "We still have one problem," said Jim. They all looked at him. "My grandchild is going to have a name. I want you two married and fast," he said. Kyle and Isabel grinned. "That's a given Dad," said Kyle. ******** Later as Kyle and Isabel were getting into bed.... "You aren't mad because I said we should..." asked Kyle. "No. I should be, but I'm not. You love this baby too, and you love me. I'm just glad we didn't have to decide," said Isabel snuggling up to Kyle. "I'll be here for both of you Isabel, I promise," he said as he put his arm around her. "I know Kyle," said Isabel smiling up at him. Kissing Isabel, they settled down and dreamed of the day they would be a family. End
