Charmingly Yours

A Site Dedicated To Lovers Of Gumball Charms and Cracker Jack Charms.
Here you will find some info about Cracker Jack Prizes/Toys/Charms and Gumball Charms, charms for sale or trade, links to eBay sellers who specialize in this field.

You may find a few websites dedicated to Cracker Jack but hardly anything on gumball charms.  This is why I decided to make this website.

Some info on these trinkets:

Gumball charms were never made of celluloid.  They were made of hard plastic, plastic or soft plastid, hard rubber, rubber or soft rubber.  You ask me what the difference is, by feel and touch and sight.  I believe the hard plastic is shinier than the regular plastic.  And the soft plastic is a bit pliable.  Same with the rubber.  Although I wouldn't call the rubber ones shiny but the texture of it and hardness is different.
Alot of gumball charms were made in Hong Kong and were marked Hong Kong until the 1960's.

Cracker Jack Toys were first being made of metal, some hand painted.  Then in the 1940's celluloid became popular because it was easily molded.  These, too, were often hand painted.  Most Cracker Jack Toys were made in Japan and if you look closely on the charm you will find it marked Japan.  Celluloid later was stopped being used as it was easily flammable.

Most charms have loops on them as I think they were intended to copy jewelry charms that were used in bracelets or necklaces.

Mechanical charms are little toys that have a movable part such as a little dog house than when tilted a dog pops out, a skull that has a moving jaw, or a tiny church and if you open it up, you'll find some tiny people.  These are just a few of the many different kinds of mechical charms, the most highly sought out on eBay.

I recently found a "new to me" type of charm that was apparently being made in the 1920's for Cracker Jack Company, it is made in Czechoslovakia and is a frosted like glass figurine with a loop.  Very rare.

There are Kobe charms that are odd little things that have pop-out eyes and some have dangling legs.

Penny King made alot of mechanical type charms and Eppy made alot of furniture type charms.

Some animals and characters have googley eyes.

Moderator of site:  Lori Dennis.  I'm 52 years old and have always loved little things.  My grandmother use to have a can full of charms that I would love to play with.  I started actively collecting charms about 5 years ago but then it came to a halt and I've just recently started adding more to my collection.  I buy most of them from eBay.  I've made a few friends and have invited them to be a part of this group and I hope to introduce them soon.  I'm married with two children, a step-daughter and 3 animal babies.  And way to many collections but my charm collection means the most to me.  If you click here, you can see a photo of my charm collection.  It's a large photo so make sure you click on the magnifying glass to see it fullsize.
