I don't know anyone who has anything bad to say about Requiem. For those who were becoming (for reasons completely unknown to me) tired or aggravated with TXF, this episode brought them back. For those of us who have been with the show (or the season) all along, it was a perfect season finale. And you couldn't hope for a better cliffhanger! For me, the subtleties lying within Requiem are beautifully intriguing. How nice to see Scully pondering the "I Want to Believe" poster, since she has so wonderfully grown into that position of "believer". Some are annoyed by Scully's insistence on scientific evidence (including me, on rare occasions), but it is that foundation which has given the X-Files (the project, not the show) the footing to continue as it has. Furthermore, it has given her the ability to now play the "Mulder" role, in some respects, in the upcoming Season 8. We shall wait to see how this manifests itself exactly... I have a few ideas about the pregnancy. I don't believe that CSM insemenated Scully in any way--at least I would hope not, because it would give in to that weird, soap-opera-ish thing that William B. Davis contributed in En Ami. I do think that these are valid possibilities: 1. The CSM used the vaccine to heal Scully.
2. Scully was healed when she was infected with the alien virus (not very likely to me, since Scully is a doctor and probably had herself examined afterwards).
3. Mulder's "side effects" from the brain illness gave him the ability to impregnate Scully.
4. Gibson Praise has special healing abilities which he somehow used to help Scully (again, perhaps a stretch). I kind of lean torward #3.
I am nicely surprised that Mulder is wearing Scully's cross when he is abducted. It is a secondary way in which Scully doesn't "let (him) go alone." Secondarily, it confirms the completion taking place between Mulder and Scully. Each is taking part in the other's aspect of faith, creating a bond of wholeness.
Can't wait till season eight! Hang in there, Philes! A+ |
