16.  Chimera
I was really excited about Chimera, partly because it aired after a couple of weeks of repeats, and partly because of the mounting prospects of the remainder of the season.  It did not disappoint.
This is an excellent opportunity to examine Mulder's character, since he spends time away from Scully, in a manner very similar to season five's
Chinga.  In fact, there are many similarities here.  Both have sporadic hints of amusement spaced between intense scenes involving witchcraft-type horror.  This time, the roles are reversed, and Scully is the bored one.
But there is a difference here.  While Scully's boredom is amusing, it leads to the main storyline for the upcoming episode,
all things.  As for Mulder, this is a more pointed look at his desires for a home life.  Weird.  It's not unnecessary or even unsuitable--just feels funny to look at Mulder this way.
I really enjoyed the combination of character study and case-solving.
