| What tension! This episode is pivotal to so much. First, Mulder and Scully's ability to trust and rely on one another is tested as NEVER before. This was really, really needed after Fight the Future. TXF grew outwards a little in the movie, and I'm sure it was difficult to know exactly how to delve into season six as a result. One of the best scenes is when Scully takes Mulder's hand and says something reminiscent of FTF's hallway scene. She's reminding him that her science is what keeps Mulder honest, but he's not buying. He's had enough. Scully has seen so much, yet she refuses to believe without evidence relating to the present situation. By the end of the episode, the tension of not only this, but also of Gibson's escape & illness, and Diana Fowley, is almost gut-wrenching. Therefore, when Scully announces her scientific discovery in the end, it provides an unbelievable release! A+ |
