| As one of those rare fans who missed Arcadia during Season 6, I heard so much about the funny little one-liners and overtones, and could hardly wait to see it. Now that I have, I see a new perspective concerning the Mulder and Scully relationship. Shippers quote and refer to Arcadia unceasingly, but I must agree with the Noromos who "claim" it as theirs. There is a definite air of "hands off" on Scully's part which is both verbal and physical. She wants nothing to do with Mulder's "advances", and it is hilarious! My take on the relationship through Season 6 is that it is based on the deepest kind of friendship and professional respect, that it is made of the kind of profound closeness which is unable to deny the most intimate of feelings, but whose intimacy Scully must avoid, even in jest. Diana Fowley contributes to the "jealousy factor", but Scully's wall does not truly waver until Season 7. And for the stand-alone, Arcadia is fun, not-so-scary, pretty suspenseful. I enjoyed the episode, but I wish I had seen it on the original air date. I'm not entirely sure why this is a favorite. B |
