A Piece of My Mind...

Doll Repaints and the next 2 weeks
photo
I've been working on a new hobby: repainting dolls. Basically repainting the 16-inch fashion dolls I collect, but I'm actually "practicing" on Barbie dolls (typical shown). They are much tinier and so a little harder to work on, but much a much cheaper way to practice. I want to learn to re-root dolls as well, where you can change their hair, but more importantly "root" more hair in so you can style it differently. Meanwhile, several things are planned over the next weeks. As I said earlier my brother, Greg, is losing his 3-1/2 year battle with cancer and each day is subject to revision as the family works together to help him and my sister-in-law as needed. Of course, every day with him is precious to all of us as well, but he suddenly looks so pitiful it really breaks your heart. He has a very strong will to live, but his body is being so punished now that it's painful to watch. He is not in a lot of pain, thank God, but between the cancer which causes elevated levels of ammonia in his body and the medication that works to control that, and then the meds to counteract side effects from THAT medicine, he is just zonked out all the time. He does take strong pain killers, but so far they are doing their job. Yesterday was an especially hard day for him and he wants so much to stay awake and converse, but couldn't, and an even harder one for my sister-in-law, Linda, who is so brave and takes such wonderful care of him.

This Sunday my church, the Newton Church of Christ, is having a potluck after worship at the park nearby. I'm planning to go and to bring my Ambrosia salad, so must get working on that. Unfortunately last night I bent over to pick something up (what a miracle) and something went SPROING! in my hip, well, actually, my lower back on one side. So today I'm going to have to cancel a doctor appointment to see if I can get in at the last moment with my massage therapist. I know my sister and her kids will be going and probably my nephew (my brother's son). I doubt if Greg and Linda will attend, unless he feels much better that day---if he does at all, I know he will insist on going to worship, but may decide to skip the picnic/dinner. We have a small congregation and are close to them, so I'm looking forward to this.

The following week brings the high school commencements of my nephew, Danny, and niece, MacKenzie, and we are planning dinner at Olive Garden afterward.

Linda and I were talking about movies and dinner for tonight or else tomorrow afternoon, depending on how Greg is doing, but my back could be a problem. Hard to sit in one position for long at all, (standing more than a few minutes is definitely not an option).

A week from this Sunday everyone from my church is invited to one of the member's daughter's graduation party, so I'll be bringing a dish to that as well--"Grandma's Baked Beans", my wonderful and dear grandmother's recipe I've made for years. They'll go well with the hamburgers and hotdogs that are planned.

My sister, Jacki, has opened her pool and I hope to be able to go over there a lot this summer, good exercise as well. Well, that is, it's good exercise if I actually exercise in the pool--lol. I can't swim.
