Linda and I went yesterday to our 2nd exercise day followed by our first water aerobics class. We chose what we thought would be the easiest class "Gentle Waves". I'm 56 and she's 58 and neither of us has exercised in a long time, plus she has a couple of degenerated disks and I have the heart problem so we wanted to take it slow. We spent about 45-60 minutes in the machine room, both on the treadmill (I went 2 more minutes this time!) and then she did a little strength training and I rode a stationary bike. We also did our favorite machine, but I can't remember the name, we generally just call it he "push/pull thing". The bike bothered my back but none of the other stuff did. She also did "rowing", but the instructor doesn't want me to do some of the machines nor the strength training until I see my internist on Thursday and have him set some parameters. Then we changed into our suits and went to our water aerobic class. As Melvina put it "what a blast"! The water is saltwalter rather than chlorinated and heated and it feels wonderful after exercising. Our arms got more of a workout here than in the machine room and then we finished with some stretches after 40 minutes. Absolutely loved it, I tell you
. We're going back today, but tomorrow I have a nail and pedicure appointment at 2:30 so I can't make it. Tomorrow night is bible study and we leave at 6:30. I've been going out to dinner or lunch for almost a week, so tomorrow we'll just come home so we can eat at home. Then Thursday, I have that doctor appointment at 11:30 am, so we hope to still get to the water aerobics class by 1, but will not try to get in the machines that day. I'm afraid to overdo this week, so we are aiming for three days a week. Actually I'm aiming for more to make sure I get in AT LEAST 3 days a week for the first couple weeks. As I get in better shape I can always up it. We made good time yesterday to Hickory, it only took us a little over 30 minutes to get there. Last night I got nothing else done, though, too tired. And I went to bed early for me (a little before midnight). This should really help with my sugar and let me lower the amount of insulin some more eventually, and I hope it will help with the weight loss too.
