Chapter 9

AJ took a deep breath before entering the room.  The sight before him scared him.  Nick  was laying in bed on his back.  He was pale as a ghost.
AJ walked close to the bed before sitting down.  He took a good look at him.  His skin was pale, there were bags u under his eyes so dark it looked as if hed been in a fight and beaten.  Nick was thin too.  Too thin.  AJ could see all the bones in nicks body, he was afraid to touch Nick, in fear that he might crush  his bones.
It was the day before the surgery.  AJs heart sand with doubt when Nick told them about the pre-mature surgery, and the treatments not working.  But that was 3 weeks ago, tomorrow, would be the hardest day of AJs and everybody else's life, especially Nick.

They all waited in the waiting room in the general surgery wing.  They were nervous and scared.  The surgery was only suppose to go 3-4 hours, and they were now going into the 7th hour.
Jane had had Bob take the kids home after the 5th hour started.  She didnt want her other children to go threw this.  But BJ stayed.  She had promised Nick before he was given the anesthetics that she would be with him in his room when he woke up. Nick and BJ had become close than ever over the last few months.  She was the only one he would allow near him after he had gotten his daily treatments.
Everyone stood up as Nicks doctor arrived.

Oh Thank goodness, is he alright?  Jane said, jumping to her feet.  The doctor looked at her blankly.  Janes heart raced, silently wishing to strange the answer quickly from him.

there were complications. Hes stable right now, but I dont know if hell stay that way.  He said.
Everyone in  the area had tears in their eyes.  They were going to loose nick.

May we see him?  Kevin asked.

Yes,  the doctor answered.  They all walked into Nick's room.  He looked worse than ever.  His skin was so white, yet tinted purple as if bruised, he was so thin.
He laid in the hospital bed.  Tubes all over attached to machines all around.  He looked so small, fragile and helpless.

You should say your goodbyes now.  He may not live much longer.  Its up to Nick and God now.  The doctor said simply.
