Maintenance Notes Key
1  =  1.8L engine only.
2  =  Including spare.
3  =  If applicable.
4  =  Every 2 years, regardless of mileage.
5  =  Add fluid as necessary to maintain correct fluid level.
6  =  Change engine oil and filter every 5,000 miles for 1.8L Turbo, 2.0L, 2.8L VR6, VR6 4-valve, & 1.9L TDI engines.
7  =  Every 12 months, regardless of mileage.
8  =  TDI engine only.
9  =  V-belt.
10  =  Check for leaks.
11  =  Check operation including park/neutral position switch.
12  =  Visual check every 12 months regardless of mileage (kilometers).
13  =  Check dust seals on ball joints and tie rod ends; check tie rods.
14  =  Check kickdown, braking, steering, heating and ventilation, air conditioning, power accessories and electrical systems.
15  =  Check fault memory; purge if necessary.
16  =  Replace both the timing belt and the idler pulleys at 100,000 miles (160,000 km).
17  =  4 cylinder gasoline engines only. Inspect condition of the timing belt.
18  =  Drain the water separator at 5,000 miles and every 5,000 miles thereafter. TDI engine only.
