Blood on the Silk Road: Part 2

The Search for Jerry Flynn II

The Bossman and Kurt Angle are at gunpoint. Two armed men in suits confront them and one says, welcome to Turkestan. There is a small country called Turkestan, but the term is also used to describe the Central Asian Muslim region that includes Kazakstan, Tajikstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and part of China. They all have separate languages which are all from the Turkish language family, except for Tajikstan, which comes from the Farsi language family. Kurt Angle speaks Tajik and Farsi fairly well, as he is one of the most popular athletes in Iran and has trained in Tajikstan. They are seeking Jerry Flynn, but it appears someone else has found them.

Get into the cart, one of the gunmen spits at them. There is a donkey cart, the traditional and still used method of transportation in Kashgar, in the Xinjiang province of China. The men get in, and sit in silence as the cart takes them to the edge of town and onto a dirt road. They follow the road for about 20 minutes, until they meet up with a jeep.

You will be blindfolded, the gunman says. They are put in the back of the jeep and drive for about an hour through the wilderness of Xinjiang. Angle and the Bossman sit in silence as they feel the sun setting and the darkness emerging.

Finally, they reach their destination, a sheer sandstone cliff. The men are then bound, and still blindfolded, are lifted up the cliff to the San Xian caves, three ancient Buddhist grottoes. Their blindfolds are taken off and a wizened old Chinese man motions for them to sit down on two mats. The Chinese man surprises them because up to this point, their captors have all been Uyghur.

They sit in silence for 20 minutes. Finally, Angle says, why are we here? Who had us kidnapped?

I did, a powerful voice boomed from the entrance of the cave.

It is Jerry Flynn.
