JAPANESE FILM LIST
I have listed my Japanese films in this separate section. This is because my main trading interest is in Japanese cinema and I wanted to be able to provide people with a link straight to these films. Many of the tapes are very rare and almost all are subtitled.
Please note: Films arriving in the next week or so are listed at the bottom (click here to go straight there), as are films that have had subtitles added to them (for more about this click here).
The Adventures of Electric Rod Boy
(1988/9, Shinya Tsukamoto, aka 'Denchu Kozo no Boken', 'The Adventures of Denchu Kozu'). Very rare
Shinya Tsukamoto short film (45 mins). This is an upgrade copy of the infamous VSoM tape. It's not as bad as it could be, and is better than my previous copy. English subtitled. I love this film - it has all Tsukamoto's trademark imagery and frenzied camerawork, as well as Kei Fujiwara and Tomoroh Taguchi. Recommended. NTSC.

Avalon (2000, Mamoru Oshii). This new SF film was directed by the creator of GHOST IN THE SHELL. Lovely copy of the Japanese DVD, widescreen and subtitled. NTSC.

Dolls (2002, Takeshi Kitano). 'Beat' Takeshi's latest film has been roundly slagged off in most quarters, but any director responsible for films like SONATINE and HANA-BI should be allowed a few misfires in my opinion. 1st generation copy of the Japanese DVD, subtitled and widescreen.
Dora-Heita (1999, Kon Ichikawa). The screenplay for this chambara film was written back in 1969 by four directors including Ichikawa and Akira Kurosawa. It took thirty years for Ichikawa to finally get it produced. Subtitled.

Misa - The Dark Angel (1998, Katsuhito Ueno, aka 'Eko Eko Azarak III'). Third part in the 'Wizard of Darkness' series. Misa is played by a different girl this time, and there's a new director, but still a good horror film. Widescreen & Subtitled.

Abuse: Naked Blood', 'Nyogyaku'). Very extreme gore film by 'King of
Pink' Sato. This is an excellent, mint, widescreen, subtitled print. NTSC.

DVD, which is also subbed and widescreen.
Nobody (1999, Shundo Ohkawa). Good widescreen, subtitled copy of this highly acclaimed Japanese noir.
Noisy Requiem (1989, Yoshihiko Matsui). This underground epic (2h30m!) is probably the rarest film on my list. The biggest collaboration in the Japanese underground's history, everyone worked on this, from Shinya Tsukamoto to Masashi Yamamoto to Sogo Ishii. Japanese language only, but you try finding a subtitled copy!! Good copy.

Pinocchio 964 (1991, Shozin Fukui). A
subtitled copy of Fukui's splatterpunk masterpiece. This is a surprisingly good copy, almost as good as my Japanese dupe. Rare.
Pistol Opera (2001, Seijun Suzuki). Suzuki's return to the cinema after a few years away is a characteristically scattershot affair, dividing fans pretty much down the middle. It's interesting how the title of the film seems to echo that of Shinya Tsukamoto's BULLET BALLET. Excellent subtitled NTSC copy. Very Rare.
Playgirls (1992, Takao Nakano). Trash-meister Nakano's insane homage to female wrestlers, otaku culture and dodgy fx!
Playgirls II (1993, Takao Nakano). Slightly more extreme sequel to the above.

Rainy Dog (1997, Takashi Miike). New upgrade copy of this excellent, super-cool Miike hitman flick. This has been done by the same guy who did my DOA tape, and is another mint, widescreen, stereo copy of the Japanese DVD with (excellent) subtitles added. The screener of this film is particularly poor quality, so seeing this tape came as a real revelation! Recommended and rare. NTSC.

film, and features Juzo Itami in an acting role! (he also produced)
NTSC.
The Tastiest Flesh (1990, Masayoshi Sukida). This
is a very unusual, rare film. Quite Cronenberg-esque, with some really weird scenes. I really liked this, and it's probably one of the most over-looked of the late 80's/early 90's Japanese horror films. Recommended. Subtitled copy. NTSC.

COMING SOON...
COPIES OF FILMS CREATED USING A TIMESCRIPT AND A DVD
I have been lucky enough to come into contact with two guys who create subtitle timescripts from bootlegs and festival tapes and then use these to make perfect quality subtitled VHS masters. Basically this involves buying an unsubtitled (usually Japanese) DVD and playing it through a PC. At the same time, the timescript can be overlaid on the image, and this can then be output to a VCR. The end result is a first generation copy of the DVD with the addition of subtitles (the image can also be output through a projector... if you're lucky enough to own one that is). These tapes are beautiful to behold and I'm extremely grateful to Adam and Damian for their hard work. Listed below are the films I have that have been recorded in this way:
Takashi Miike:
BIRD PEOPLE OF CHINA
BLUES HARP
DEAD OR ALIVE
DEAD OR ALIVE II
DEAD OR ALIVE: FINAL
FULL METAL GOKUDO
GRAVEYARD OF HONOR
THE GUYS FROM PARADISE
ICHI THE KILLER
LEY LINES
RAINY DOG
SHINJUKU TRIAD SOCIETY
Kiyoshi Kurosawa:
EYES OF THE SPIDER
THE SERPENT'S PATH
KOREI (aka SEANCE)
GUARD FROM THE UNDERGROUND
Others:
GOJOE (Sogo Ishii)
LABYRINTH OF DREAMS (Sogo Ishii)
SUICIDE CLUB (Sion Sono)
BLUE SPRING (Toshiaki Toyoda)
WORLD APARTMENT HORROR (Katsuhiro Otomo)
