| Andrew Bradford enlisted 11 Aug 1862 as Private age 19, enlisted from Grand Rapids, Mich, claimed residence in Ravenna. Promoted to Full Corporal 1 Nov 1864 , Last reported residence at Baldwin, Mich, discharged at Edgefield, Tenn on 21 Jun 1865 (Joined regmt at Rienze, Ms, 9 Sep 1865) | ||||||||||||||||
| 1842 born Sept. 12, 1842 in Oakland County, Michigan. Son of Capt. J.N. Bradford 1852 moved to Grand Rapids and in 1858 moved to Ravenna, Michigan 1862 enlisted in U.S. Army on Aug. 11, 1862 and served for three years during the Civil War 1862-65 took part in battles of Ressaca, Perrysville, Chickamauga, New Hope Church, Lookout Mountain, Kennesaw Mountain -- served in the 2nd Michigan Cavalry under Phil Sheridan [see my comments below] 1865 after war returned to Ravenna where he worked as a carpenter and cabinet maker -- in 1866 was elected a justice of peace 1873 moved to Muskegon and worked for American Express and later managed the Occidental Hotel 1889- 1900 moved to Baldwin, operated the Arlington Hotel, filled a position in Office of Secretary of State, supervised construction of major hotel in Marborough, Michigan (near Baldwin). Became nationally known as a fishing guide working on the Pere Marquette River. 1906 married Clara Bonney [a second marriage - I don't know details of first marriage] and fathered a son, George Bradford 1910 elected village president and justice of peace and continued in those posts until his death 1911 died in June, 1911 Andrew Bradford wrote about his experiences in the Civil War and published his work in the Lake County Star during the 1890s. Unfortunately, copies of this newspaper do not exist today. He also wrote articles about the Battle of Nashville which were published in the National Tribune during April, 1896. Copies of these articles may be obtained on microfilm from the Library of Congress. He faithfully attended many reunions of the 2nd Cavalry and even hosted one such event in Baldwin, Michigan.
