| This is my current car. It is Lightly modified 3rd generation Honda Prelude. Its proper title is the 1989 Honda Prelude 2.0 Si. It was originally acquired on November 11, 1988 from a dealership in south Florida. When I purchased it, it had around 85,000 existing miles already. But the previous owners had obviously taken very good care of it. The interior is in nearly flawless shape with the exception of the optional factory floor mats. The paint is also in excellent shape, and barely shows it's age of 12 years, with slight discoloration on the hood, trunk, and bumbers. Besides the minor cosmetic flaws, the driveline is still very strong for a smaller and older car. My little car still allows me to smoke just about every unmodified Civic ever created. (civics aren't sports cars...I'm sorry) Even with the current 131,250(2/28/02) miles on the odometer, it can still break the driving wheels free under hard acceleration. The 1st gear very audibly. The 2nd not so much of a screech as it is a chirp. Honestly, it's not that entirely fast; however, it is relatively quick for a car rated at 135hp from the factory. Kudos to the engineers at Honda for the short-geared transmission. That gearbox being the reason for hittings 30mph in 1st before redline. And then redline again at about 58mph in 2nd. As far as fuel economy, with my predominant amount of highway driving, I average around 30 miles per gallon. And I'm thankful for such a moderate thirst, because my little car prefers to sip its gas in the Premium Citgo flavor. It does run fine on regular 87, and I do give it 87, since I don't need to spend the extra cash on 93 just to burn it away senselessly (damn the daily Ocala commute) One of the drawbacks to the car, is that it's small. More or less a 2+2 seater. The fronts are spacious for two full sized adults.(tall not obese) But pity anyone subjugated to the rear seats, which are barely seats at all. I've described them as glorified and upholstered shelves. Capable of carrying a CD-case, or a bag of groceries |
