Part I-Connotation: based on how the word is used in the following phrase, give a logical, implied meaning for the word. This should not be from a dictionary but from your understanding. Please put your answers on a separate piece of paper.

 

  1. Uncoordinatedly         The man was foaming at the mouth and jerking uncoordinatedly.
  2. Justifiable.                  It’s terrible, but it’s justifiable.
  3. Pretenses                    I’m here under false pretenses
  4. Perplexed                   At first he saw nothing and was perplexed.
  5. Berated                       he berated himself for having not checked the house
  6. Immaterial                  “My name is immaterial,” Derek said.
  7. Gall                             They even had the gall to ask for their down payment back
  8. Altruistic                     I’m not doing this for altruistic reasons
