So Duncan (neither one thing or the other) Hague has new advisors and additions to his backroom staff, but to what avail ? Agreed, some of his new utterances have been a marked improvement on those we had become used to hearing. Agreed, his delivery is better, much better. But he is nowhere near to matching Blairs, and that is not saying much !
It is not poor old Duncan but those behind him, those in the Tory party who still have not fathomed out what they are doing wrong. The worst thing that could have happened in retrospect although I agreed with it at the time, was that the local party had a voice in electing the Leader. Look where it got them, those descent, and increasingly aged, middle class citizens, now largely of the shires. They are a million light years removed from the hub of society and social change in this country, which emanates from the cities and conurbations. And lets face it, the Tories have few enough seats in these.
Of course there are some excellent politicians within the party, one may think of Heseltine or Clarke, but there is little young blood entering politics on their side. There is little young blood entering period. Theirs is a NOW generation, a gime gime gime generation, a fuck you generation, a NIMBY generation and the mores the pity.
Duncans only hope is that he can hold on to the leadership until the Labour Government implodes. But has he in it then to win an election ? I doubt it. He sounds like a loser, he looks like a loser and by God, he is a loser. Have another drink boy.
