I was somewhat surprised when a few days ago I was stopped in the street by three boys, who could have been no older than 9 10 years. They asked me to sign a petition against fox hunting. I declined and being somewhat in a hurry sped off.
Thinking about it, I should have taken the time to explain to them that any cruelty done to the few foxes killed in England each year pales into insignificance when compared with the cruelty inflicted upon millions of animals each year, especially poultry, reared in disgustingly cruel conditions in this country. Even worse, a great proportion are imported from countries such as Thailand, where absolutely no concerns are expressed for their welfare. Once reared, hundreds of thousands of animals are slaughtered under the barbarous Hallal laws by Muslims or, indeed, the Kosher method used by the Jews. Why expend so much time, effort and money on stopping fox-hunting where a handful of foxes are killed ? Why have these children been indoctrinated to canvas for this cause ? Why do they not canvas for those of their age who are slaughtered each year in African wars, who are abused by paedophiles, who have a star role in snuff videos but no perhaps the noble fox is more important.
