I never followed up this heading which I posted early this year. I still stand by it though and we have another couple of months to go. Perhaps the most obvious threat to Blair is the criminal investigation into cash for peerages. It has gone a little quiet there too. Blair and his advisers must have exerted incredible pressure on the police not to continue their investigation. I would dearly love to know with what the man in charge of the investigation has been threatened. Certainly demotion, loss of his pension, and God knows what other retribution. I hope he stands firm. Then of course the DPP will already have been nobbled and the judiciary. Campbell and Powell must be working over-time, for this is undoubtedly the most serious threat to Blair during all his time in power and the one that can force his resignation before he envisaged it.
