| GORDON BROWN, THE KING IN WAITING | ||||||||
| Or perhaps it should be the Queen in waiting. No, no, I don't believe the rumours! But will he actually succeed Blair as leader of the Labour Party? I am not so sure. He will be soiled goods by the time Blair steps down. I have a sneaky feeling that is what Blair wants. Like Hitler in his bunker, Blair is beginning actually to realise that the game may be up for him. Why not hand over power to a man he dislikes when that man will not enjoy it, or enjoy it for long. But what astonishes me about Brown is that the press, and we can only speak of them, opposition politicans are quite clueless, the press has only in recent months begun to criticize him. It is only now sinking in what a mess he is making of the economy. Only now? It has been quite obvious to me that he has been messing it up for a number of years, indeed, the seeds for what is happening were sown six years or so ago. Yet no one cottoned on. I had written an exceptionally long and analitical piece on why our economy is unsound, and had started to post it on this site some time ago. But do you know what, I want to see if any journalist has the wit and ability to come to the same conclusion him or herself. They stack up. I wait with bated breath. |
