Notes: Written for laylee. _____________________ 1) She can't watch him on tv or read his stories anymore, and it makes her sad, because even though she likes Dan and Casey, she misses being able to enjoy her own husband's work. 2) He came home most nights between two and three AM. She had adjusted her internal clock to deal with his schedule, but some days she was just too exhausted, and she fell asleep as he was telling her about his day. Every once in a while, it made her feel like an awful wife. 3) "I can't be in the hospital. I have a show to do!" was the first thing he said, once he could talk again. 4) Are you sure you're ready? she asked him, and he gave her one of those looks that could melt the most hardened criminal, but never worked on her. I don't want you to tire yourself out. But he walked into the newsroom anyway, and she watched from the door, unseen, as his flock greeted him. It made her smile at the time, but seeing the way his face was drawn with exhaustion that night, she regretted letting him go at all. 5) "He thinks he's leaving, but he never will," Dan said at Isaac's retirement party. "This job's in his blood." "Yes," she agreed, watching her husband from across the room. "It is." |
