In the ancient tongue, Eni Niuria meant* the Land Beneath the Stars. It was so named to convey their delight and joy in a world so perfectly made. But their's was a world as yet untouched by evil. Known as the First Age, its perfection ended with the God Wars and the creation of the first Elves. Cedrin, created from a pure drop of blood from Corelon Lorethian, wanders the world at the beginning of the second age. His greatest delight is his wife, Elleria. Together they name many things, including dwarves and man. But once all things have been named, a strange melancholy falls upon Elleria. It has been placed there by Nyx, the power of darkness and Gaia's brother. Convincing Cedrin this melancholy is a result of all the life around her, Nyx has Cedrin feed Elleria a series of "cures." Each one makes her worse, and each time Nyx blames the living things of the world. When Elleria dies, Cedrin blames life itself and vows to destroy all things living. Teaming together with Lolth and many Elves, Cedrin sets out to rid the world of the curse of life. Through the second age, Cedrin wages war on the living and is only defeated at great price. Nyx has secretly placed a spot of darkness in Cedrin's heart. Because of this, Cedrin may be defeated but never killed. |

Gaia, aware of
what Nyx plans, has kept the spirit of Elleria from entering Arvanaith, the Elven land of
death, by reincarnating her each time she dies. She returns many times as a hawk and even
as a human. In the end, she forgives Cedrin for killing her, and it is this selfless act
that forces Cedrin to realize what he has done. Cedrin manages to force out the spot of darkness placed there by Nyx, but in the process is killed. Together, he and Elleria (now known as Kanessa) enter Arvanaith with their son, who was killed trying to save Kanessa's life. Thus ends the second age. The wars of the second age have left the land ravaged. Civilizations have been destroyed and vast numbers of people displaced. It is here our story begins... |
