Story
Boring boring boring. FFVII has been announced and I'm rumaging
through the preliminary characters. So far we have some spiky dragon
ball Z guy named Claude, some pink flower thing named Ealis, and some Mr.
T look-alike named Barret. What kind of crappy names are those?
Even after the names changed to something more feasible (Cloud, Aeris,
and Barett), the characters still weren't very impressive. So I come
across more character shots. Oh wow, FFVII has Lara Croft?
I wonder how much money Square paid Eidos for that. Then looking
at the name of the files I find her name's Tifa, but I'm still not interested.
Time to surf the web some more. Oh, another character section.
Let's see. Scroll scroll scroll... old stuff and more old stuff and
wait, who was that? I scroll back. That girl alone (well, and
perhaps her freaky costume) was enough to make me get interested in Final
Fantasy VII.

Commentary
Meh. I'm one of those people who didn't like FFVII too much. Though, I didn't really hate it. Actually, I liked it somewhat, but wasn't too passionate about it. Cept for a few things like the turks, really. And of course, Yuffie.
Personality: Lots of people hate Yuffie. They want to kill her. Must be cartoon karma or something since she actually stole their materia. Can't we all just get along? Seriously, though, Cloud only handed the black materia to Sephiroth, beat up Aeris, and let her get killed right in front of his eyes but no one cares about that. Ah well. It's about time we got an annoying good guy that actually went out of her way to REALLY annoy the player and not just the characters in the game. Tis unique! And of course lots of people think her personality is as flat as a box because all they think she cares about is materia, but ah well. Patriotism towards Wutai wasn't emphasized to much, but her crying over Cloud's shoulder and the fact that she's the only girl that dares to kiss Cloud made her seem like a deep character to me. Deep enough to, like, star in her own video game if done correctly.
Looks: Lots of people think Yuffie doesn't look too good. I admit I don't care too much for Tetsuya's art work of her but when translated to polygons she looks damn cool in my opinion. She also gets the most interesting and innovative clothes of all the characters. She doesn't rely on big eyes like a certain other female character for looks. Exactly what the hell that arm guard and fishnet is for is beyond me, though. She's also really thin and has short hair, which... strangely enough reminds me of me. Bah.
Battle: Well, characters don't differ too much from each other but Yuffie still does have some things to make her stand out in battle. Compared to everyone else, she has slightly higher speed and magic and slightly lower defense and hp, but she gets a long range weapon allowing her to stay in the back for protection. Her limit breaks are for the most part thrifty. She's the only one besides Aeris with a heal limit break (It's not THAT bad, I mean you get to use it often since it's a level 1 break at least) and she has that nice multi hit lvl 3 limit break. Too bad her 4th level really limit sucks but ah well. You rarely get to use level 4 limit breaks since you need to suck up like 300% damage before your limit bar fills up.
Other: Since both Yuffie and Cloud cause so much trouble for the party, and they both get sea/air-sickness, and since she's the first to truly reveal her love for Cloud as well as the only one to kiss him or cry over him, they make a good couple... yep. *prepares to get lynched*
More Other: Hmm... lots of people enjoy making comparisons between
Yuffie and Selphie. Yeesh, I won't go into the debate of whether
or not Square has any originality in character creations but I must say
that the fact that Yuffie and Selphie are basically "You" and "Self" with
a "fie" at the end is mildly amusing.
