Ellen

Story

Okay, so Bahamut just got this new game, Persona.  I saw screenshots of it a while ago and my impression back then was "D3wd, this looks like some pretty $#@$ed up $#@$ right here."  So after Bahamut finally got it and I finally dropped by to see how his playing was going, he had arrived at this room and the geeky yet cool looking Nate guy said something like "Zombies, I'll get you for this!" and I laughed.  Bahamut was travelling through some sort of hospital dungeoun.  After seeing him contacting some fairy enemy thingies then said fairies whining, my impression was "D3wd, this looks like some pretty $#@$ed up $#@$ right here."  Later on at the end of the dungeoun, Bahamut was accosted by more zombies, then SHE came onto the screen, and the moment after her face popped up next to that dialogue box and she said, "Hey guys, what's up?", I said to Bahamut, "Oooooooo, who's that?"

Commentary

Ah, Ellen.  I don't know how I'd survive Persona's multiple hour long dungeouns that don't have savepoints in them, both mentally and gameplay wise, without Ellen there to come along.

Personality:  Ellen's kinda... wierd personality-wise.  Course that just makes me like her all the more.  She acts mature a lot of the time and tries to be some sort of leader, but also spaces out, spends time worrying that her "beautiful skin" is being ruined by constant demon fighting, and she spazzes out with a gun.  Isn't that cool?  Ellen also slowly over time falls in love with the main character.  Yay.  Too bad that isn't developed more (This was before FFVII and love triangles became the "in" thing.  Yeesh.)

Looks:  Ellen's known for her exotic face (the instruction booklet and game says it, not me).  Exactly what the bleepgot that really means is beyond me.  At any rate, I really like how Ellen looks.  Though, like Yuffie and Viki, I can't really explain why.  She has nice hair and a nice face, I guess.  At any rate, in the Japanese version of Persona she has black hair, and in the US version she has blonde hair.  I prefer blonde, myself, because the black hair kinda makes her look like some sorta witch or something at times.  Sure, she likes the occult, but I don't think she spends that much time in THAT kind of occult.  Ah yes, and in Persona 2 Eternal Punishment she makes a reappearance as a playable character.  Woohoo!  Though... I kinda am unsure about her new haircut.  It seems so... plain compared to her old one.  Maybe when I see the US blonde version, she won't seem so... alien to me (if there is a US blonde version.  Come on, Atlus!!!!  Don't let the Sony censor nazis keep ya down!).

Addendum:  Well, looking at her Persona 2 hairstyle, my preferences sorta changed a little.  I think she'd look... really kinda freaky with blonde hair in Persona 2.  I must be the only one on the planet who prefers blonde hair for her in Persona 1 though, hehe.  Now that I think about it, I like the black hairstyle too and the whole witch thing vibe that I get off is actually kinda fitting for someone as much into the occult as Ellen (Chizuru taught me that!)

Too bad I actually need to get and PLAY Persona 2 before I can update this shrine more or write more Ellen fics or something.  Doh!

Battle:  Ellen's about the same statwise as Nathan, almost.  Near equal amount of hps, same gun type, high technique... which is good.  Since that gun-type is awesome with its full screen ability and technique rules while strength is worthless.  Technique raises gun power.  Why use swords when you can use guns?  And technique raises sword power too, anyway.  Ellen also specializes with Judgement personas.  Judgement personas make you immune to magic.  Magic in Persona kills while physical attacks are near negligible, so it's easy to see why someone who specializes in Judgement personas is a very valuable party member in Persona.  As for her specialty personas, Nike looks really cool (even cooler in Persona 2) and Ellen's ultimate persona, St. Michael, is like the best Persona in the game.

Other:  In most polls I've seen, Ellen is the 2nd most popular character in Persona to Nate.  Yeehaw.  I must admit I was only mildly annoyed that Persona 2: Innocent Sin wasn't announced for US release just because it didn't have Ellen in it.  And now we have Persona 2: Eternal Punishment coming out which does have her in it and I'm suddenly praying it'll come here..  I'm such a hypocrite.  Eyep.

Quotes

About demon slaying:  "My beautiful skin is starting to show signs of fatigue.  Fighting demons is hard work, you know."

About Nate and Mark:  "Those two are exactly the same-- stupid!!"

A scary story:  "Ever hear of a cursed bathroom?  You can't escape until the last drop is out."

Right before she shoots you:  "Die!!!"

Dropping hints:  "Have you ever had someone really special to you?  Really?  Is that person in this room right now?  I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked you a thing like that."

Dropping more hints:  "What?  I can't ask if you're all right?  Or does it make you feel funny?"

To Mary's corpse...er, camatose state:  "You're in love with him too.  So let's talk about him.  Just please wake up, Mary."
