Prodigy - Fat of the Land
By Steve Province
Prodigy is music made to satisfyliterally. The band started out as being purely club/dance/rave techno instrumental and ended up as something much more. Prodigy combines a punk-rocker attitude with break-beat techno, and the result is an extremely popular, extremely fresh perspective into the world of electronic music. Front man Keith Flint is perhaps the most interesting aspect of the band from the PR point of view, with his wild pink hairstyle (at least at the time this album was produced) and multiple peircings. One has significant trouble placing prodigy into a group of similar artists, unless you take into account that much like Trent Reznors early work, the lyrics seem to be written for the music, instead of vice-versa. In short, the music transcends the lyrics, which is what hooks you. Some highlights of this album are Breathe, the infamous Firestarter, Funky Sh*t, and the hardcore Smack My Bitch Up. This album is one to own if youre into techno, nuff said.
