Disturbed - The Sickness
By Steve Province a.k.a. The Quilled One
It's been my belief for a while now that hard rock bands today lack the heart within their music... making it nice to listen to, but it doesn't touch you.  This isn't the case with disturbed.  The band has a lot of heart in their music.  Albiet, they're not a heart type band.  Their music is hard and dark... the lyrics are disturbingly (forgive the pun) morbid and angst-filled.  However this is what makes the band work.  Many bands today claim to have the attitude of darkness and mentel torment, but Disturbed is truly the first band of today's music that actually proves it.  Their hit track "Stupify" is a more than adequate example of this fact.  The song is 4:05 minutes long, and does not let you down for a split second.  The sound of the album is filled with heavy guitar and bass, and the music is custom made for slam dancing.  David Draiman's vocals add the perfect touch to each song, ranging from a hoarse tone to a surprisingly harmonious tone.  The only song that lacks in any way is the last song, "Meaning of Life."  It just seems lacking in some way, maybe because you know it's the last songand that affects how you perceive it.   Yet even this song is way above par.  Bands like Disturbed are few and far between in this modern music era.  Thank goodness they've arrived on the scene, because it shows hope for bands with heart, instead of just trying to hard for hard's sake.
