| Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle Earth | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| By Steve Province | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Have you ever heard of a heavy metal band playing monster ballads in a medireview style? If not, you haven't heard Blind Guardian. This band is truly unique in what they do - and they do it very well. I started kistening to these guys because of my roommate, and I have to admit, I'm hooked. Blind Guardian has been around for awhile, and is one of the few metal bands today still playing metal. This particular album is dedicated to J.R.R. Tolkien and is based on his book, The Silmarillion. Hansi Kursch (lead singer) does an amazing job on the vocals, both lead and backing. Andre Olbrich (guitar) blows you away with his guitar riffs and ripping solos. What's particularly interesting is the intro to almost every song is reminiscent of the minstrels of the Middle ages. The album itself has 22 tracks, some of them songs and some of them dialogue (remeber, this is based on a story). Some songs that really stick out on this album are Into the Storm, Nightfall, The Curse Of Feanor, Mirror Mirror, and Time Stands Still (At the Iron Hill). If you're a fan of metal, you'll instantly love this album. What we have here is a band that's sticking to it's original style and giving the world those 6-minute songs and guitar solos we all miss in todays music. I recommend Blind Guardian to anyone who loves good quality music. |
