What do you get when you put Ashley Judd, Wolverine, and a bunch of cows in a movie together? One of the best films this reviewer has seen in awhile that wasn�t an action-movie. Someone Like You, directed by Tony Goldwyn (Kiss The Girls, Bounce, Ghost), is a really good romantic comedy and a must see. The story follows Jane Goodale, played by Ashley Judd (Eye Of The Beholder, Where The Heart Is), as she struggles with the turmoil of her almost unbearable romantic life. She falls for new co-worker Ray, played by Greg Kinnear (Loser, Mystery Men), who dumps her for his ex-girlfriend. Jane then develops this theory about men called �The New Cow Theory� and sends it into a magazine under a pen name, which explodes into popularity. She eventually moves in with her tasteless other co-worker Eddie, played by Hugh Jackman (X-Men, Paperback Hero), and is thrown into a whirlwind of romantic hilarity. I know this was a very poor synopsis, for those of you that have seen the film already, but there�s just too much content to adequately explain things without telling the whole story of the movie outright, so you�re going to have to see the flick.
What I found great about this movie was the plot. It wasn�t very fast-paced, but it didn�t have to be. It moved along and never really slowed down, and kept excellent pace. The acting of Ashley Judd and Hugh Jackman was very impressive; Jackman has definitely come away from his �Wolverine� stereotype in this film. This movie was also very serious as well as being a comedy. There are points in the film that just touch you emotionally�I myself felt like crying at times during the movie. Goldwyn�s directing style struck me as a combination of Forrest Gump and Clerks, something that was very cool to see. I recommend this movie to be good for a date or just going to see a really awesome film� |
