Sleepy Hollow
By Stephen Province
One of my worst nightmares came true in 1999... and I couldn't have been happier about it.  My favorite scary monster has always been the Headless Horseman, and this movie finally brought him to the big screen.
Director Tim Burton ( Batman, Edward Scissorhands) brings the tale of Ichabod Crane and the town of Sleepy Hollow to life with a unique twist: Ichabod is now a homicide detective.  He is sent to the town of Sleepy Hollow to investigate the bizarre murders allegedly commited by the Horseman.  Crane, played by Johnny Depp (Ed Wood, Donnie Brasco), refuses to believe the legend, and strives to find the real culprit using detective work and logic.  While searching for the murderer, he falls for the beautiful Katrina Van Tassel, played by Christina Ricci (The Addams Family, Casper).  Three people play the best role in the entire film, the role of the Horseman.  Christopher Walken (Pulp Fiction, The Prophecy) plays the Horseman with a head, while Ray Park (Star Wars Episode 1, X-men) and Rob Inch play the Horseman minus the head.  One of the most interesting and enjoyable things about this movie is that it's more of a murder mystery than anything else, and it keeps you on the edge as to when and where the Horseman will strike next.
The film does change the original story to fit Burton's spin on things, but we haven't seen this kind of movie from Burton since the first Batman.  Add in an awesome soundtrack by Danny Elfman (Batman, Beetlejuice) and the spectactular special effects done by both Industrial Light & Magic and Computer Film Co., and the tale of the Headless Horseman finally comes to long awaited life.
DINGS!
