The Matrix
By Len Berry
Computer programmer by day, expert hacker by night, Thomas Anderson searches for a meaning to his life by trying to understand some vague concept known as "the matrix."  In his search, he finds  a man called Morpheus, a legendary cyber terrorist, who offers to show him "the truth, nothing more."  The result is a technological thill ride that is fun, exciting, and filled with mind boggling imagery both visually and metaphorically.
The main drawing point of this film
before its release was the images from the trailers using the special film technique  known as bullet time.  The trailers didn't reveal much plot though, so at the theater I thought I was going to some typical sci-fi/action flick.  Instead, I was treated to one of the most impressive, unique, and visually stunning films in years.
Writer/directors the Wachowski Brothers have created a new and intriguing world with their blend of cybergoth and larger-than- life story.  In the movie, the Wachowskis made use of a unique kung-fu and anime filming style, creating what can best be visually  described as a live action anime film.
Enhancing the Wachowski's vision are spectactular special effects (so good they shut out Star Wars: Episode One out of every Oscar category), exceptionally great acting--especially from Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus and Hugo Weaving as the insidious Agent Smith--and a great comic book style editing.
All these factors combined have created a stupendous acheivement in modern cinema that will live on for decades to come.
Classic award based on the groundbreaking technological and visually stunning achievements made in and by this film.
