| Jim Carrey is the only actor in the whole world that could have pulled off this performance as The Grinch. Any other actor in the world could try this part and I'm positive they would not have come close to the brilliant performance Mr. Carrey gives in this film. His performance, along with a beautiful artisic design (That looks like Dr. Suess himself drew the entire movie), and fantastic direction by Ron Howard have made this one of the best Christmas movies to come out in years. You all know the story of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, so you basically know the plot of the movie... basically. In the movie the basic issues of the original story are still there, but there are a few more plot threads added in (such as the origin of the Grinch). This is for a few reasons: 1. If they stuck with just the original story and nothing else, they would have had a movie a little less then thrity minutes long. 2. To expand on the characters of the Grinch, Cindy Lou Who, and the rest of Whoville. (Which I think they did a very good job of.) 3. To update the classic tale to modren times. Now the only real drawback I have about this film is that number three reason. I didn't really think the Grinch needed to be modernized. It's not really that old of a story, and some of the dialogue and situations just really didn't seem to fit. Despite this I still thought the rest of the movie more than made up for this small short-coming. The film had really great performances by the actors (Carrey in particular). The sets and direction were absolutely beautiful. Every building, every toy, every prop, and every character looked like Dr. Suess himself drew it. The music was also very good, especally since they incorperated the classic songs from the original Chuck Jones cartoon into the film. It just wouldn't have been a Grinch film if we didn't hear "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch" or "Welcome Christmas." This film is good for kids and grown ups alike and can really put you into the Christmas spirit. |
