| For a horror movie, this film isn't that bad. Of course, it pales in comparison to the other classics such as Nightmare on Elm St. and Halloween, but it's a classic in it's own right. The film tells the tale of a troop of doomed camp counselors who are preparing Camp Crystal Lake for re-open, after being closed because of a string of murders that gave it the nickname "Camp Blood." Of course, the counselors don't listen to the crazy old man that warns them of the danger, and start their work. This film started the most overused and popular horror cliche` of all time: helpless, naughty teenagers being slaughtered by a serial killer in the middle of the woods. For horror flick fanatics, this is s scared film to be watched. For anyone else, it's kind of lame seeing as how it didn't even have the popular guy in the hockey-mask, and is lacking in any kind of intelligent plot. However the film has awsome special effects, and a somewhat decent cast (a young Kevin Bacon amongst them). Betsy Palmer (The 1950's game show hostess) did a surprisingly excellent job in the role of Mrs. Vorrhees, Jason's mother. I swear that smile of hers was seriously starting to freak me out! Overall, I recommend this film as a must see to some extent, just for the experience of having witnessed the first in the Friday series. |
