C. SECOND AUDITIONS CALLBACKS

(Im not sure I transcribed the Shakespearean language correctly.)

Jessie stands onstage, sweetly singing Ill Fly Away.  Ill fly away, O Glory.  Ill fly away in the morning.  When I die, hallelujah, by and by.  Ill fly away.  Grace listens nervously in her seat.

Grace is now onstage to recite her lines.  I demand mercy.  Love him, take his offer.  Foul is most foul being foul to theest offer.  So take her to thee, shepherd.  Fare ye well.  Grace bends with a flourish.

Mr. Dimitri joins his hands, beaming.  I must say I enjoyed that very much.  Grace smiles uncertainly.  Thank you.  Mr. Dimitri says Now lets hear your song.  Grace leans down to pick up her song sheet, exhaling.  Whenever youre ready.  She turns briefly to the side, blows once on a harmonica, and hums to the note played.  Hmmm.  Laaaa.  She starts passably singing The birds are singing in your eyes today.  Alexa politely listens, arms crossed.  Dimitri is still smiling.  The rest of the audience waits their turn.  Sweet flowers blossom in your smile, but my soul is stormy, and my heartblows wild.  Jessie sits, biting her fingernails.  My sweetheart rides a ship on the seeeea.

D.  GRACE  TELLS MR. DIMITRI IN CROWDED HALLWAY TO FORGET WHAT SHE HAD SAID PREVIOUSLY ABOUT JESSIE

Grace peeks through the window of the door to Mr. Dimitris classroom.  The door opens outward, bumping into her.  Oh hi, Mr. Dimitri says, seeing Grace.  Hi, she says back.  Ive decided not to post the cast list.  Mr. Dimitri takes off his headphones.  I think Im going to call everybody up at home instead.  He locks his classroom door.  Its less ferocious.

Oh, okay.  So youve decided already? Grace asks.  Pretty much,  he answers.  Oh.  Mr. Dimitri pulls his bag up, takes his Walkman out of his pocket, and starts walking down the hallway.  Um, Grace starts walking to keep up with him.

Is there something else?  He pushes the stop button and puts the Walkman back in his jacket pocket.

Grace starts, I hope you, I hope you understand that what I said about Jessie was in the past and that shes fine now --  Mr. Dimitri good-naturedly touches Graces shoulder.  Grace keeps talking but glances at his hand.  and I dont think it would be a problem.  Mr. Dimitri removes his hand.  You dont?  No, Grace says.  But you brought it up  He looks at Grace.  I did, she explains, but  But what?, Dimitri asks while going up the stairs.

Grace takes a few steps up.  But what I said, it doesnt mean anything!

Mr. Dimitri stops and turns around.  Grace.  Everything means something.   Grace looks back at him, sinking a step.  Mr. Dimitri smiles and keeps walking up the stairs.  Grace turns around to walk down.
