3L Hybrid Swap

I was recently asked several questions about the 3L hybrid swap. Most of them were related to wanting pics. I took 20 pics during my 3L conversion and decided to share them here. I didn't want to get to in depth here about the actuall process because there is a welth of information on CEG, Warmongers, and Demons sites. Modern engines really kick ass. At 40K you can still see the cross hatch marks left from the factory.

I've recieved several pms from people that want to see how you notch the block for the starter. Here it is. The yellow tire chalk is where you cut out.

I took a pic of my tool storage for the hell of it so now it's on my site. My main box is a 65" Cornwell bottom box and canopy and my 35" Cornwell cart has most of the tools that I use a lot of. Since the pic was taken, I've added a shelf in the canopy and the cart has a folding ledge to set whatever your working on on.

Another common question is "how do I modify the bellhousing"? Well 5/8 holes already line up. Switch to the 2.5 oil pan and 7/8 line up. The last hole is only about 1/4" off. I drilled and tapped it using the metal cover and some epoxy.

Damn I wish I would have taken some pics of the side and pinion gears. Folks if you do a 3L swap (oval or hybrid) at least take apart your trans case and look at these gears. They take a hell of a beating even from the 2.5 engine. Mine were all V shaped missing part of the metal and about ready to fold over! Might as well do it right when the trans is out in the first place.

Quick swipe of Por 15s Metal Ready

Okay this pic turned out like shit. I used the Por 15 Metal Ready to get my headers ready for coating. Just one brush swipe and you can tell how all the oxidation dissapeared! If there high temp paint is anything like this stuff it will kick ass! Time will tell....

Secondaries honed out 2mm (1.417

Honed out secondaries to 36mm (2mm overbore). The caliper reads 1.417".
