past...
Back in 1995 Steve formed his first band. Recruiting Fag (the Marlboro Man), Tristan and Gareth "The Animal" the band was complete. After too many drugs were taken, a name drifted out of the haze - No Pigs, No Use! With Tristan on synths (so handling bass) and Steve singing... probably one of the worst bands the UK had seen was born. More an excuse to jam on a reggae groove before retiring to the pub than any kind of musical venture, this was a turning point. Fag showed Steve three chords and said "You can play 'Wild Thing' with these..." but never showed him how. It was another year before Steve picked up the guitar to actually play the Troggs' classic.

Since learning how to play Wild Thing and House of the Rising Sun from college mates, little more was accomplished until Easter '97 when new flatmate Oscar taught him Ziggy Stardust. This was the hook... and now there was no turning back. Later that year, finally persuading his best friend to buy the bass he'd been thinking about, Phil was in the band.

The first attempts at playing together weren't too pretty, but were recorded for posterity in Steve's new house in Southampton. The loan of his housemate's bedroom as a studio was a big help in these early days (thanks Katie!). One thing led to another and before long Steve was writing... the early songs are thankfully gone, but practice makes perfect and the Loose End repertoire grew to be respectable.

With Loose End on indefinate hiatus, the Oneida project came to life as Dingo, Phil and Steve spent a day in the old college's music studio, putting all the jams to good use by recording an EP. Mainly a voyage of discovery, the skills picked up in the recording session will serve us all well in the future.

Currently, Steve is working on several solo projects and collaborations under the alias "The Jonny Yen Collective". Phil and Dean are now playing in a band called "Joe Normal", Steve is their sound engineer.
