There is a nasty one called WINFIXER2005 out there. Once that gets on your computer, your basically stuffed unless you have a spyware program on your comp.

WINFIXER2005 IS NASTY...VERY VERY NASTY.

If you see it on your computer, ring your ISP and ask for help.

The download file is a ZIP file so to install Spybot you will need to extract it first. After downloading the file, right click on it and for Windows XP, choose Extract or Extract All... and for other systems choose Open with Winzip. If you dont have these options, you will need to download Winzip. Windows XP users will be fine as Winzip is part of XP

NOTE: Computers running XP and Service Pack 2 may experience download difficulties. Disable Service Pack 2 security before downloading as it is to strict. There is no need to disable installed firewalls, virus scanners or other spyware software running on your system when downloading this file.

Why does Service Pack 2 cause problems when downloading some files?

Service Pack 2 security  considers some files, such as ZIP and EXE files to be a security risks. A ZIP file is a copressed file created to store 1 or more files into 1 single file, sometimes creating a smaller sized file, making them easier to download. Some people will ZIP viruses and send them to you in an email or ask you to download them. After you extract the file the viruses are released. EXE files are files that self run, install or create settings on your computer. If you download an infected EXE and run it...well I think you get the picture. Screensavers also carry viruses and Service Pack 2 may stop you from downloading those types of files as well.

This is all good, but at times. Service Pack 2 will consider a safe file to be a risk for being a certain file type, even if it's safe.

You can download files and before installing, running or extracting them, run a scan on the file with your Virus Scanning program. If its nasty, your Virus scanning program will quarantine or remove it.
