Proverbs 10:12
Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers
over all wrongs.
Proverbs 5
18 May your fountain be blessed,
and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth.
19 A loving doe, a graceful deer-
may her breasts satisfy you always,
may you ever be captivated by her love.
20 Why be captivated, my son, by an adulteress?
Why embrace the bosom of another man's wife?
Proverbs 15:17
Better a meal of vegetables where there is
love than a fattened calf with
hatred.
Proverbs 16:6
Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned
for; through the fear of the
LORD a man avoids evil.
Proverbs 17:9
He who covers over an offense promotes love,
but whoever repeats the
matter separates close friends.
Proverbs 17:19
He who loves a quarrel loves sin; he who builds
a high gate invites
destruction.
Proverbs 27:5
Better is open rebuke than hidden love.
Ecclesiastes 9:9
Enjoy life with your wife, whom you
love, all the days of this meaningless
life that God has given you under the sun-
all your meaningless days. For
this is your lot in life and in your toilsome
labor under the sun.
Matthew 5
43 "You have heard that it was said, 'Love
your neighbor and hate your
enemy.' 44 But I tell you: Love your enemies
and pray for those who
persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of
your Father in heaven. He
causes his sun to rise on the evil and the
good, and sends rain on the
righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you
love those who love you, what
reward will you get? Are not even the
tax collectors doing that? 47 And if
you greet only your brothers, what are you
doing more than others? Do not
even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore,
as your heavenly Father is
perfect.
Matthew 10
37 "Anyone who loves his father or mother more
than me is not worthy of
me; anyone who loves his son or daughter
more than me is not worthy of
me; 38 and anyone who does not take
his cross and follow me is not
worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will
lose it, and whoever loses his
life for my sake will find it.
Matthew 22
34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees,
the Pharisees got
together. 35 One of them, an expert in the
law, tested him with this
question:
36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment
in the Law?" 37 Jesus
replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all
your heart and with all your soul
and with all your mind.' 38 This is the first
and greatest commandment.
39 And the second is like it: 'Love your
neighbor as yourself.' 40 All the
Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
Mark 12
28 One of the teachers of the law came and
heard them debating. Noticing
that Jesus had given them a good answer, he
asked him, "Of all the
commandments, which is the most important?"
29 "The most important one," answered Jesus,
"is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the
Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the
Lord your God with all your
heart and with all your soul and with all
your mind and with all your
strength.' 31 The second is this: 'Love
your neighbor as yourself.'
There is no commandment greater than these."
32 "Well said, teacher," the man replied.
"You are right in saying that God is
one and there is no other but him. 33 To love
him with all your heart, with
all your understanding and with all your strength,
and to love your neighbor
as yourself is more important than all burnt
offerings and sacrifices."
34 When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely,
he said to him, "You are
not far from the kingdom of God." And from
then on no one dared ask him
any more questions.
Luke 6
27 "But I tell you who hear me: Love your
enemies, do good to those who
hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray
for those who mistreat you.
29 If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn
to him the other also. If
someone takes your cloak, do not stop him
from taking your tunic. 30 Give
to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes
what belongs to you, do
not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you
would have them do to you.
32 "If you love those who love you, what credit
is that to you? Even
'sinners' love those who love them. 33 And
if you do good to those who are
good to you, what credit is that to you? Even
'sinners' do that. 34 And if
you lend to those from whom you expect repayment,
what credit is that to
you? Even 'sinners' lend to 'sinners,' expecting
to be repaid in full. 35 But
love your enemies, do good to them, and
lend to them without expecting
to get anything back. Then your
reward will be great, and you will be sons
of the Most High, because he is kind to the
ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be
merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
Luke 6
36 Now one of the Pharisees invited Jesus
to have dinner with him, so he
went to the Pharisee's house and reclined
at the table. 37 When a woman
who had lived a sinful life in that town learned
that Jesus was eating at
the Pharisee's house, she brought an alabaster
jar of perfume, 38 and as
she stood behind him at his feet weeping,
she began to wet his feet with
her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair,
kissed them and poured
perfume on them.
39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw
this, he said to himself, "If
this man were a prophet, he would know who
is touching him and what
kind of woman she is--that she is a sinner."
40 Jesus answered him, "Simon, I have something
to tell you."
"Tell me, teacher," he said.
41 "Two men owed money to a certain moneylender.
One owed him five
hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42 Neither
of them had the money
to pay him back, so he canceled the debts
of both. Now which of them will
love him more?"
43 Simon replied, "I suppose the one who had
the bigger debt canceled."
"You have judged correctly," Jesus said.
44 Then he turned toward the woman and said
to Simon, "Do you see this
woman? I came into your house. You did not
give me any water for my
feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and
wiped them with her hair.
45 You did not give me a kiss, but this woman,
from the time I entered, has
not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not
put oil on my head, but she has
poured perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I
tell you, her many sins have
been forgiven--for she loved much.
But he who has been forgiven little
loves little."
48 Then Jesus said to her, "Your sins are
forgiven."
49 The other guests began to say among themselves,
"Who is this who
even forgives sins?"
50 Jesus said to the woman, "Your faith has
saved you; go in peace."
Luke 16:13-14
"No servant can serve two masters. Either
he will hate the one and love
the other, or he will be devoted to the one
and despise the other. You
cannot serve both God and Money."
The Pharisees, who loved money,
heard all this and were sneering at Jesus.
John 12:25
The man who loves his life will lose it, while
the man who hates his life in
this world will keep it for eternal life.
John 13
34"A new command I give you: Love one another.
As I have loved you, so
you must love one another. 35 By this
all men will know that you are my
disciples, if you love one another."
John 15
9 "As the Father has loved me, so have
I loved you. Now remain in my love.
10 If you obey my commands, you will remain
in my love, just as I have
obeyed my Father's commands and remain in
his love. 11 I have told you
this so that my joy may be in you and that
your joy may be complete.
12 My command is this: Love each other
as I have loved you. 13 Greater
love has no one than this, that he lay down
his life for his friends. 14 You
are my friends if you do what I command.
15 I no longer call you servants,
because a servant does not know his master's
business. Instead, I have
called you friends, for everything that I
learned from my Father I have
made known to you. 16 You did not choose me,
but I chose you and
appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit
that will last. Then the Father will
give you whatever you ask in my name. 17 This
is my command: Love each
other.
Romans 8
38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life,
neither angels nor demons,
neither the present nor the future, nor any
powers, 39 neither height nor
depth, nor anything else in all creation,
will be able to separate us from the
love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 12
9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is
evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be
devoted to one another in brotherly love.
Honor one another above
yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in
zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor,
serving the Lord.
Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for
the good of those who love
him, who have been called according to his
purpose.
Romans 13
8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the
continuing debt to love one
another, for he who loves his fellowman
has fulfilled the law. 9 The
commandments, "Do not commit adultery," "Do
not murder," "Do not steal,"
"Do not covet," and whatever other commandment
there may be, are
summed up in this one rule: "Love your
neighbor as yourself." 10 Love
does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love
is the fulfillment of the law.
11 And do this, understanding the present
time. The hour has come for you
to wake up from your slumber, because our
salvation is nearer now than
when we first believed. 12 The night is nearly
over; the day is almost here.
So let us put aside the deeds of darkness
and put on the armor of light.
13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime,
not in orgies and
drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and
debauchery, not in dissension
and jealousy. 14 Rather, clothe yourselves
with the Lord Jesus Christ, and
do not think about how to gratify the desires
of the sinful nature.
1 Corinthians 2:9
However, as it is written: "No eye has seen,
no ear has heard, no mind has
conceived what God has prepared for those
who love him"
1 Corinthians 13
1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of
angels, but have not love, I
am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
2 If I have the gift of
prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and
all knowledge, and if I have a
faith that can move mountains, but have not
love, I am nothing. 3 If I give
all I possess to the poor and surrender my
body to the flames, but have
not love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not
proud. 5 It is not rude, it
is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it
keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does
not delight in evil but rejoices with
the truth. 7 It always protects,
always trusts, always hopes, always
perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there
are prophecies, they will cease; where
there are tongues, they will be stilled; where
there is knowledge, it will
pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy
in part, 10 but when
perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.
11 When I was a child, I talked
like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned
like a child. When I became a
man, I put childish ways behind me. 12 Now
we see but a poor reflection as
in a mirror; then we shall see face to face.
Now I know in part; then I shall
know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope
and love. But the greatest of
these is love.
1 Corinthians 16:14
Do everything in love.
1 Corinthians 16:22
If anyone does not love the Lord, a curse
be on him.
Galatians 5:14
The entire law is summed up in a single command:
"Love your neighbor as
yourself."
Ephesians 4:2
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient,
bearing with one another in
love.
Ephesians 5
1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly
loved children 2 and live a life of
love, just as Christ loved us and gave
himself up for us as a fragrant
offering and sacrifice to God.
Ephesians 5
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ
loved the church and gave
himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing
her by the washing
with water through the word, 27 and
to present her to himself as a radiant
church, without stain or wrinkle or any other
blemish, but holy and
blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands
ought to love their wives as their
own bodies. He who loves his wife loves
himself. 29 After all, no one ever
hated his own body, but he feeds and cares
for it, just as Christ does the
church-- 30 for we are members of his body.
31 "For this reason a man will
leave his father and mother and be united
to his wife, and the two will
become one flesh." 32 This is a profound
mystery--but I am talking
about Christ and the church. 33 However, each
one of you also must love
his wife as he loves himself, and the
wife must respect her husband.
Colossians 3:14
And over all these virtues put on
love, which binds them all together in
perfect unity.
Colossians 3:19
Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh
with them.
1 Thessalonians 3:12
May the Lord make your love increase and overflow
for each other and for
everyone else, just as ours does for you.
Hebrews 10:24
And let us consider how we may spur one another
on toward love and
good deeds.
James 2:5
Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen
those who are poor in the
eyes of the world to be rich in faith and
to inherit the kingdom he promised
those who love him?
James 2:8
If you really keep the royal law found in
Scripture, "Love your neighbor as
yourself," you are doing right.
1 Peter 1:22
Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying
the truth so that you
have sincere love for your brothers, love
one another deeply, from the
heart.
1 Peter 4:8
Above all, love each other deeply,
because love covers over a multitude of
sins.
1 John 2:10
Whoever loves his brother lives in the light,
and there is nothing in him
to make him stumble.
1 John 2:15
Do not love the world or anything in the world.
If anyone loves the world,
the love of the Father is not in him.
1 John 3:11
This is the message you heard from the beginning:
We should love one
another.
1 John 3:14
We know that we have passed from death to
life, because we love our
brothers. Anyone who does not love remains
in death.
1 John 3:16
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ
laid down his life for us.
And we ought to lay down our lives for our
brothers.
1 John 3:18
Dear children, let us not love with words
or tongue but with actions and in
truth.
1 John 3:23
And this is his command: to believe in the
name of his Son, Jesus Christ,
and to love one another as he commanded us.
1 John 4:7-9
7 Dear friends, let us love one another,
for love comes from God. Everyone
who loves has been born of God and knows God.
8 Whoever does not love
does not know God, because God is love. 9
This is how God showed his love
among us: He sent his one and only Son into
the world that we might
live through him. 10 This is love: not that
we loved God, but that he loved
us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice
for our sins. 11 Dear friends,
since God so loved us, we also ought to
love one another. 12 No one has
ever seen God; but if we love one another,
God lives in us and his love is
made complete in us.
13 We know that we live in him and he in us,
because he has given us of
his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify
that the Father has sent his
Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 If anyone
acknowledges that Jesus is
the Son of God, God lives in him and he in
God. 16 And so we know and rely
on the love God has for us.
God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in
God, and God in him. 17 In this
way, love is made complete among us so that
we will have confidence on
the day of judgment, because in this world
we are like him. 18 There is no
fear in love. But perfect love drives out
fear, because fear has to do with
punishment. The one who fears is not made
perfect in love.
19 We love because he first loved us. 20 If
anyone says, "I love God," yet
hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone
who does not love his brother,
whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he
has not seen. 21 And he has
given us this command: Whoever loves God
must also love his brother.
