Jean Liedloff's book,"The Continuum Concept", brought to the west the experience of an American writer, who spent two and a half years deep in the South American jungles,
observing the Stone Age Indians.
The book introduced the concept that a baby needs to be in a constant contact with his mother and it is important to carry him close to the parent's body, as much as possible.
In the demanding modern society, this means being with your baby while shopping, walking, seeing friends, working in front of the computer, cooking and more.
For this purpose, the baby carrier was invented. "Wearing" the baby on you, keeps your hands free to keep on doing whatever you need, without leaving your baby away.
As long as this is done in a relaxed unforced way, it brings the freedom to the parent, to keep on doing his normal activities, and the baby enjoys the parent's warmth and contact,
while being part of the activities and being able to observe them. The baby moves with the parent, feels his movements and enjoys the world,
instead of being left alone in a cradle or a trolley.
While being part of the parents' world, the baby learns and experiences the sights of the world from a secure, womb feel alike point.
Babies need warmth, contact and movement. While trolleys indeed provide the movement, they are missing the warmth and the contact.
There are many baby carriers, and with the rising popularity of "babywearing", we see more and more products. Each one chooses the baby carrier that fits him the best.
When our child was born, we tried to find the best baby carrier, and we tried a few; from classical front pouch carrier, side pouch carrier, wraps and slings.
Our definite conclusion was that we preferred a sling. We were looking for a carrier that has more than one position, easy to put on and is totally secure.
We have read in some articles that babies should not be put in a sitting position until they are around 3 months, as it creates too much pressure on their lower spine.
For young babies it was more recommended to be kept in a breastfeeding position or in womb-like position where the legs are folded together and the weight is evenly distributed along the spine.
So we looked for a sling type carrier, that can support the spine for the young baby, but can still be used when he grows up into the sitting position.
This is how we ended up with Loopi.
It answered all our needs. It was easy to put on, had a wide range of positions, from birth until the baby was simply too heavy to be carried around.
We were introduced to Loopi from an article in a newspaper that compared 8 different baby-carriers and Loopi was one of the most recommended.
Our child had seen very little of the trolley. Although we had one, we always preferred Loopi. Try to push a trolley through the Vallorbe cave, or the 'Cascade de Harisson' in the Jura...
Loopi gave us the freedom to enjoy nature while our baby is with us, from very young age, as we were not limited to trolley type walks.
Also the winter didn't stop us from enjoying the outdoors. We put the Loopi on and covered us and the baby in the same coat. Our baby was cozy and warm, next to our body, while we had beautiful walks in the snow.
After using it for 8 months and being totally satisfied, we can fully recommend it. We decided to import it to Switzerland, as we couldn't find here any other baby carrier that is exactly like this one.
