PR Jasper's River Ridge Jewel
AKA Jewel
Jewel is my own treeing walker female. She is about 4 1/2 years old and a real sweetie. We picked her up the day after Christmas a few years ago. Jewel is small, weighing in at about 45-55 lbs, and she has a lot of white, but she is a great dog and I am very proud of her. Jewel is one of the FEW females that we have, males surpas females here at River Ridge.
I could talk on and on about Jewel and her little antics, but I don't want to write that much and I doubt you want to read that much. Jewel is a hoarse dog but easy to call. She has a VERY fast chop mouth on tree, and a cross between a long chop and a short bawl on trail. She's a quick dog to get through thickets and brambles when neccassary. She has the swift, agile movements of the walker and she is a bit smaller than some, so she doesn't get slowed down in the brush as much. She is very thorough when trailing, something we picked up on during her first days in training on a hide drag. She will often circle back and re-check herself where the trail is less affirmative. Jewel will also hunt very deep when she needs to, and though she does check back in, she does it a lot less often than our other dogs. When we first brought Jewel home we took her out for a hike in the woods. I watched her carefully and noticed she was afraid of water. We later cured that fear and she now loves the water-in the summer you can see her laying in the brook! She certainly is a gorgeous girl, and she will hunt!
Jewel is a very well bred dog, with Pac Man, Tri Color Tom Tom, Houses, and a little Finley River, not to mention tons more. Her sire is a world nite champion, Loomacres Rocky Mtn. Jasper, and her dam is also a Loomacres bred dog, Loomacres Abigail. Her sire, Jasper, had a trademark-his white-tipped ear. Only one of his many many pups inherited his ear, and that was Jewel. When we bought Jewel I wanted my new puppy to have a "J" name because her sire did, so as I sat in the backseat with my little white hound, and brainstormed names such as Julie, Jill, Jenna, Jem, and Jade, I finally settled on Jewel, and she has definately lived up to her name.
