Nathan D. Hale was born May 18, 1868 in probably Russell Co, Va. The s/o Wilburn and Surrilda Turner Hale, he died August 12, 1959 and is buried in the Gravel Lick Church Cemetery at Gravel Lick, Va. He first married Mary Turner and then married Berlie Church about 1922. They had two children,Blaine and Rilda. This photo was taken about 1957 and was sent to me by Rilda's daughter along with this poem:
He had a nature you could not help loving, And a heart that was purer than gold: And to those who knew and loved him, His Memory will never grow old.
God took him home, It was his will, but in my heart I love him still. His Memory is as dear today as in the hour he passed away, I often sit and think of him when I am alone, for memories is the only friend, that grief can call its own. God bless you and rest in peace.
Thank you Jennifer Griffithe for sharing these photos of your grandfather.
