Quotes about Baseball Page
"There is no crying in Baseball"  - But there are alot of heart aches.
Some of My Favorite Quotes about the Game
"They'll turn up your driveway, not knowing for sure why they're doing it, and        arrive at your door, innocent as children, longing for the gentility of the past ....
"'Of course, we don't mind you look around,' you'll say. 'It's only twenty            dollars per person.' And they'll pass over the money without even looking at it -       for it is money they have , and peace they lack.
"They'll walk out to beachers and sit in shirtsleeves in the perfect evening,
or they'll find they have reserved seats somewhere in the grandstands or along        one of the baselines -- wherever they sat when they were children and cheered       cheered their heroes."
"The momories will be so thick that the outfielders will have to brush them       from their faces"
"I don't have to tell you that one constant through all the years has been          baseball. America has been erased like a blackboard, only to be rebuilt and
then erased again. But baseball has marked time with America....... It is a               living part of history .... It continually reminds us of what once was, like an            Indian-head penny in a handful of new coins.

SHOELESS JOE COMES TO IOWA
    From Bart Giamatti
   "
Is not baseball a form of writing? Is that not why so many writers love baseball"
"Baseball fulfills the promise America made itself to cherish the individual while      recognizing the overarching claims of the group."
"The playing of the GAME is a restatement of the promise that we can all be          free, that we can all succed"

ONLY IN BASE BALL IS 7 FAILURES OUT OF  10 EXCELLENT
Baseball is like life, you are on your own and with someone to help you, all at the same time.
The pitcher faces the batter and has to diliver a pitch so good that the batter either guess wrong it being a ball or a strike, misses if he swings at it or hit it and it lands the playing field side of the fence.  If the Batter does hit it there are 8 more people who's job is the catch the pitcher's mistakes. As soon as the Pitcher release the ball for it flight to home plate 8 others come into play. Now the batter, He is all alone when batting no one can bat for him and still play the rest of the game. But as soon as the pitcher decides what he is going to throw The batter team mates try and tell the Batter what is coming so he can prepare for it. If he gets to first safely he is again part of a team as it is hard for a runner to score without help in some way from his team mates
Don Drysdale when hearing a sportscaster describing the record feat of Sandy Kofax when he pitched his 4th and final no-hitter late in the season while the Dodgers were in a pennet race. Three  was a record at the time.

"Never mind history, did we win the game"

Dodgers won 1-0  only hit of game, by catcher Johnny Rosboro
My first game as a college umpire will be remember by some. after the pitcher thru the first pitch of the game instead of saying ball or strike I called "TIME". I never saw the pitch cross the plate,I heard it hit the catcher's mitt  never saw it. Well I saw it leave the pitcher's hand but on the way to the plate it disappeared. I went and talked to the base ump, a veteran, and he explained to me what happened. My eyes were not use to seeing something that fast about 90MPH, and could not see it.
So for the first couple of innings he was calling balls and strikes from the bases untitil I got use to it.
