| "They'll turn up your driveway, not knowing for sure why they're doing it, and arrive at your door, innocent as children, longing for the gentility of the past .... "'Of course, we don't mind you look around,' you'll say. 'It's only twenty dollars per person.' And they'll pass over the money without even looking at it - for it is money they have , and peace they lack. "They'll walk out to beachers and sit in shirtsleeves in the perfect evening, or they'll find they have reserved seats somewhere in the grandstands or along one of the baselines -- wherever they sat when they were children and cheered cheered their heroes." "The momories will be so thick that the outfielders will have to brush them from their faces" "I don't have to tell you that one constant through all the years has been baseball. America has been erased like a blackboard, only to be rebuilt and then erased again. But baseball has marked time with America....... It is a living part of history .... It continually reminds us of what once was, like an Indian-head penny in a handful of new coins. -------- SHOELESS JOE COMES TO IOWA |

| ONLY IN BASE BALL IS 7 FAILURES OUT OF 10 EXCELLENT | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Baseball is like life, you are on your own and with someone to help you, all at the same time. | My first game as a college umpire will be remember by some. after the pitcher thru the first pitch of the game instead of saying ball or strike I called "TIME". I never saw the pitch cross the plate,I heard it hit the catcher's mitt never saw it. Well I saw it leave the pitcher's hand but on the way to the plate it disappeared. I went and talked to the base ump, a veteran, and he explained to me what happened. My eyes were not use to seeing something that fast about 90MPH, and could not see it. So for the first couple of innings he was calling balls and strikes from the bases untitil I got use to it. |
