| "Hey, How many ways can we say the same thing?" | ||||
| Wow, its been a really long time since I've done one of these. Well anyway, I've noticed something recently, well not so much recently but more of havn't ranted in depth about it and I'm sure I'm not alone but, music videos are becoming very very typical. Not to mention most modern rock sucks ass anyway. I really can't stand these Nickelback/Three Days Grace/Three Doors Down/Trapt/Hoobastank/Smile Empty Soul/any other band that sounds exactly like these bands. Anyway, onto the real point, music videos. So I'm sitting there flipping channels because I got tired of staring at a computer screen and I come across the music channels. (note: not Mtv because I cant remember the last time I actually saw a music video on there, they actually made another channel because reality tv invaded so much, pathetic I know.) I watched a combination of Fuse and Mtv 2 for about an hour and I only came across about 10 videos. Anyone who can do simple math can figure that 10 songs doesn't equal 1 hour. I've also noticed a trend of bands not having a bass player, this makes me sad, bands need bass players. (White Stripes/Transplants/Yeah Yeah Yeahs) Now the music video itself, here are basic ingredients for most music videos: 1 song about a young anger/love situation with standard "anthem of a generation" status Camera on just the band while playing chorus at least once. Backshot of some everyday story/life (to make a attempt to connect with their fans.) Now this could be a broken family, or a failed relationship, alot of the time booze are involved. Or sometimes just people "hanging out" although they have to try and make these seem like its actually intresting so people are generally always moving for some reason. A good shot of some type of scene. (the fan base sporting the bands t-shirt or other bands in the scene rocking out to the band playing) Some type of shot(s) portraying a deep feeling of melancholy or angst. (not required) Another overused method is each band member has their own "time to shine". This can be applied to the backshot of an everyday story/life. For instance each band member has a verse or so to show their story or what not. Add in some cool graphics and/or tricky camera tricks and you've got yourself a music video. Now I'm not really saying anything people don't already know, and that proves my point more, no one is being original anymore. I'm not saying I could do any better, because I'm sure theres people out there just like me saying the same things doing the same things. (you are not a beautiful or unique snowflake, you are the same organic compound as everything else) |
