| In fact, yes, punk IS dead | ||||
| (Before you read this know: I do not automatically hate you if you consider yourself punk, hell, almost ALL my idols consider themselves punk. On this page is simply my opinion. If you are offended by it your are a very very very stupid insecure person. Now read the damn page.) I am totally against useing the word "punk". I do not consider myself a punk, I hang out with people that consider themselves punk and I listen to music that people (some people) consider punk. That doesn't make me punk. Punk has become a fashion and fashion as we know is just based on stereotyping, therefor making punk a stereotype. Don't believe me? Avrial Lavigne had been called punk...why? cause she dresses like it. "Punk" was created in late 70's by people like The Sex Pistols, right? (or ramoenes or the clash or Buzzcocks or The Damned or whoever, due to my further knowledge of The Sex Pistols, Im useing them as an example). The Sex Pistols were all about being anti- and rebellion. They wanted to create music without the interfearance of media propaganda. So with it beginning as an anti-, how did eveyone like it? When any band on the front of a teen magazine can be considered punk, its over. Now most people will try to justify being punk, so lets say someone says its a way to be an individuel. The truth is not everyone is "unique and special in there own way." I hate to say it but if everyone was different in their own way, wouldn't that make us all the same? or if someone says they are punk cause its a way to be nonconformist, all your doing is conforming to a stereotype. Its so hypocritical to hate the mainstream when your in the mainstream! No "punk" band can go on TRL and bitch about how they were outcasts. (points at any popular band that says their outcasts). I saw one time some teen magazine that had Good Charolette, on it and said "The happy punks that love being on TRL, Their parents and going to church." (or something like that) Most of you will agree with me that Good Charolette is not punk and sucks ass. But even if Alkaline Trio or AFI can be considered punk, Its nothing more than a bunch of tangible sounds. Im gonna go ahead and say punk died when it came out from the underground "broke through" so to say.. The point is its over, the fight was launched against the mainstream and corporate america has cashed in on it. Theirs so many troubles with people saying their punk or people calling people posers, just drop it, if you wanna be who you are, drop all labels and stereotypes. Its music, don't care what kind it is, if you like it listen to it. Don't get caught up in dressing punk or doing punk things cause its reatarded. |
