Dear
brothers and sisters in Christ,
It is a
pleasure to be able to write to you and tell you about what has occurred this
past month. I was about to write this letter last week, but decided to wait
until after THE WEDDING! That's right! One of the families that you have been
praying for has finally decided to "make it official" and get
married! Vero and Pedro tied the knot February 27 after morning services.
Previous to this they had lived together for about 14 years.
Vero has
been worshipping with us for over two years, but Pedro never really wanted to
have anything to do with the church, even occasionally "tempting" the
kids to stay home Sunday mornings by making breakfasts and other things. But he
was recently sent to jail on drug charges, and that's where the transformation
began. After being released from jail pending court, Pedro realized how
important his family was to him, and how meaningless his previous addictions
were. Vero has been wanting to get baptized for these past two years, but knew
that if she did so she would be unable to continue living with Pedro. So now
they are happily married and he tapped me on the shoulder during the reception
and said he would like to get together with Kevin and I and talk about baptism.
Wow! Can't you just see God working through all of this! I know that these
things have also been a direct result of your fervent prayers for us. Please
keep praying!
We are also
on the verge of studying with two other families. Sylvia has been coming with
us for quite a while as well, but still can't make the full commitment. Her
husband has never come to visit us. Now, get this: Because of the wedding, her
husband finally came to visit! Although our study times have repeatedly been
changed due to "other things," we are confident that soon we will get
to preach the gospel to her one-on-one and she will respond to the gospel.
Please pray for Sylvia and Raul, Susy and Lalo, and members of Vero and Pedro's
family who were witnesses to the wedding. (Speaking of which, Vero's sister now
also wants to get married to her live-in boyfriend. They currently live in
Midland, but are looking to move back here and want to do the ceremony at
Montana Vista!)
Now to some news that is not so joyous. We want to ask a double-portion of prayer for Alicia. Her health has deteriorated the past two months, and she has been unable to do many of the things she needs and wants to do. We ask that you pray that God totally heal her and remove all traces of her illness. We especially petition the elders to pray for her. God is all-powerful, and he is compassionate. He is also all-wise, so we trust in his judgments in these matters.
We continue
to be concerned for Maggie (Mage) and her lack of zeal for serving the
Lord. Also, Oscar, who was recently baptized, began dating a Mormon and seems
to be willing to sacrifice his own beliefs in order to get married. Please pray
that we will be able to reach out to him and keep him from forfeiting his soul
for temporary enjoyment. Another brother, Carlos, needs prayers that God will
humble him to be willing to love the brothers and patiently receive instruction
from the Lord. He is an encouraging man whom we feel God could use mightily for
his kingdom.
Changes are
coming! The owner of the house where we worship is back in town and wants her
house back, so we have until the end of March to find a place to worship!
Please pray for this effort also. We firmly believe that this is a blessing of
God to get us into a location to reach more souls.
One more
bit of news to pray about: We will have another big day of giving out clothes
March 11. I plan on taking that day off to go help, sharing the gospel message
with those who come. Please pray that the material blessings we are sharing are
far outweighed by the spiritual blessings that we will share and there will be
a harvest of souls for the Lord.
May God
keep all of us strong as we strive to serve him and spread his love throughout
all of creation!
In Christ,
Lonnie,
Romie, Vivianna, Sonia, & Talon
